New Stuff

Heather has started a new craft, applying decoupage over wooden boxes and glass vases. Her paper choices and layout give an asian impression to the work.

Lyle has started doing more work with bookbinding, including leather covered books with red oak boards. His first book of that type had a latch made from a separated hinge. When the book was first shown, someone that handled it didn't realize that the hinge had been separated, and apparently thought that the rivet that attached it to the leather strap was actually a snap, and tore the rivet out of the strap. So, Lyle has also done some work learning how to repair damaged leather bindings...

Sample ratsOne new thing we started making is "plague rats". We weren't doing well at the CT Ren Faire one year, what with all the rain and cold, so we did some brainstorming near the end of the faire season, and came up with, basically, a new toy and juggling item. Our plague rats are currently made of a nice soft warm material and filled with beans. Their character is primarily expressed through their over-sized ears and cute tails. I think they do well with other folks because we have so much fun with them that they want to join in the fun!
