SPARK is a not-for-profit all volunteer educational organization committed to the success and well being of the single-parent family.  Membership is open to all parents of children under eighteen, with or without custody, who are single by reason of separation, divorce, death, or never married.  SPARK was incorporated in the state of Maryland in September 1987 by nine founding members, all former members of Parents Without Partners, Chapter 60, and serves the greater Washington, DC area with members throughout Maryland, Virginia, and DC.

Our mission is "to build a community where single parents can share the knowledge and provide the mutual support needed to experience a rewarding life for ourselves while raising our children to be competent and well-adjusted people."  Our primary means of accomplishing this mission is the active participation of the membership in planning and presenting a balanced program of family, educational, and social activities.

SPARK plans a monthly calendar of events with the help of its members such as pot-luck dinners, outings to museums, concerts, and theater, educational presentations and discussions on parenting concerns, adult social activities, and numerous activities that families can do together.
