East University Veterinary Hospital Pete Marine, DVM (practice owner) Kathy Tamblyn, DVM 1675 E University Dr Auburn, AL 36830 Map Phone: (334) 826-0360 Reviews |
This is a practice where you need to let the vets know that you want to be aggressive in treating your animals, but they will definitely work with you. Dr. Marine is more of a dog vet, and Dr. Tamblyn is more interested in the cats (but they both take great care of all the animals). They are very open to a discussion of treatments, but at this time do not have BP monitoring equipment. We have a house full of cats, and over the years we've grown ever more impressed with this practice -- they will work with you money wise if you tell them up front you have to make payments. They will gladly give you copies of your cats' labs, will call you and return your calls. They don't rip you off on prescriptions, and will write you a script for fluids and supplies from online once they realize you are serious and knowledgeable about your cats. Tell them Shelly and Frank recommended them! Shelly Ducharme, PharmD, Auburn, AL 5/30/06 I still highly recommend this practice -- these vets are super nice people and they definitely do good work Shelly Ducharme, PharmD, Auburn, AL 3/19/07 |

I would like to recommend Dr. Borden for inclusion in your vet. listing. I do Persians and Dr. Borden has been my vet. for years. He trained under John Nall, D.V.M. with Nall Animal Hospital in Birmingham, AL until Dr. Nall retired and then he ventured out on his own. He and his vet. staff are the most caring and knowledgeable people that I have ever had the privilege of knowing and doing business with. Believe me I have went through a bunch of vets over the years - trying to find the "right"one - one that actually cares about the animals and is not just in it for the money. He wants to know every minute detail of what is going on with your animal and listens to everything you say about a particular Persians' habits and/or symptoms and goes from there. He greets the animal first, loving on them to reassure them that everything is okay. He picks my Persians up and cradles them talking softly to them for comfort sake - then asks questions about what is going on. I have never had one of my Persians afraid of him or his staff because he is so gentle with them. He is always open to suggestions if, you find new information on any particular subject and is always willing to go over the pros and cons with you. Every animal that I have seen come though his office is treated as though they are the only animal in the world. I have watched him and his staff greet numerous people coming in and they always know the person's name, as well as the animal's name which I find a very personal touch. His diagnosis' are always right on target. He gets it right the first time! Thank you for considering Dr. Borden. -- Brenda Caudle -- 8/15/07 -- Tooliebouce Persians |

She is very knowledgeable in geriatric care and very willing to work with you in order to figure out the best course of action for your cat. Along with her knowledge she has a heart of gold, rare to find this combination in vets these days. Suzanne Elder -- 12/7/04 |

Cindy Trout originally diagnosed my Lestat back in June of 2000 with CRF. She has been instrumental in my fight to nurse him back to health and supports my research and helps me to check out treatment possibilities and new drugs, etc. She encouraged me to learn to do fluids at home and refers people to my Caring For CRF Felines yahoo group and all of the links we provide there - which includes your list!! BTW, Lestat is a happy and healthy CRF kitty! O. K. as healthy as you can be with high BUN & Creatnine -- 1/6/02 - Judy Chadwick We normally go to Dr. Cindy Trout, too, can't say enough good things about her. She remains our "regular vet". But we had an emergency last weekend and I was extremely pleased with the care we got at Diamond - a 24/7 emergency hospital. They were compassionate, very competent, professional and thorough. Another friend recommended her and we began having our pets (3 cats and 1 Golden Retriever) see her in the beginning of May 2006. She has a wonderful manner with the pets as well as humans. Currently, she is working with a vet Animal Hospital (University Veterinary Hospital - see my 2nd vet/clinic recommendation below) to coordinate care and run blood work. Our dog has begun having seizures and my 19 year old kitty has hyperthyroidism and was just (on 6/20/06) possibly diagnosed with Renal Failure. He had a quick and dramatic turn for some reason and the kidneys are tired. With Dr. Nard being so mobile and seeing patients as far out as Apache Junction (I live in the newly revitalized part of South Phoenix), she advised having this partnership in case a need to get the animals seen quickly would arise. She uses Oriental treatments, Chinese Herbals, and shamanist methodologies as well. She is very thorough, very easy to have rapport with, and open to dialogue. She is very helpful in providing web sites that other clients have found with better prices for buying any pre-packaged food they purchase, though she strongly encourages minimal processed food of any kind. For the occasions you might still need pre-packaged food, she has recommendations for better food choices than what you will find at your local Petsmart. I like the options presented by having a holistic vet working for my pets' best interests. 7/1/06 - Pam Morrison Kellen |

House calls, holistic vet practices TCM, acupuncture and allopathic medicine as well. Dr. Ivin has extensive training in acupuncture and a wonderful bedside manner. Many non-invasive procedures can be done in your home as well since she has a portable anesthesia unit. Calico has gained 2 pounds since we started seeing her. She also works a lot with homeopathy and herbal remedies, but does not hesitate to use antibiotics when necessary. The UVH has also been terrific - both doctors we've seen there have been very easy to work with - Doctor Wright and Doctor Flegenheimer. They are open to suggestions, not above a recommendation from an outside doctor, and are working to be very cooperative with Dr. Nard [mobile holistic vet] with no prior experience of sharing clients, especially not with a holistic vet. When Dr. Nard called and requested they run an additional thyroid test on Jaz's prior blood work when his T4 came back in a normal range, 3.3 (after it having been over 6 in 11/05 and his dropping 2 pounds since 11/05, and with a heart rate of 300 bpm at his exam with UVH), the vet promptly had the test done. He phoned with the results, and felt terrible for not having this run initially. They have been prompt with phone calls and going the extra distance from my experience to date, which is still in the new stages, but I am so far impressed, overall. 7/1/06 - Pam Morrison Kellen Dr. Lisa Stegman, a "recommended vet" who formerly owned All Care Cat Hospital in San Diego, CA, relocated to Tempe, AZ, in 2007 and joined the staff at University Animal Hospital. |

Dr. Diane has upwards of 14 years experience practicing vet medicine, and she takes special interest in the geriatric feline patient with the oft multiple medical problems that must be precariously balanced. She and her staff are gentle and sensitive to the special needs of the feline patient and take care not to over stress their patients. Having once been a vet tech myself, I observe & experience a gentle veterinary practice headed by a veterinarian who excels in feline diagnostics. When I left the pet health field and the vet I worked for retired I was left bouncing from one veterinary practice to another before finding Dr. Diane and, with confidence, building a patient/veterinarian/client relationship with her. -- 10/16/02 -- Maria Pappas After my cat went into ARF following oral Metacam dosing prescribed by a vet, I have become admittedly very skeptical of vets and defensive about my cat's care and treatment. I've been to 11 vets in two different states since my cat got sick, most of those were a one-time experience and I'll never go back. Dr. Wright listened, took time with Frankie and me, listened to my ideas, concerns, observations and actually seemed to 'get' what my cat means to me. I recommend her highly. My cat, Ming, has been cared for by Dr. Siebert for more than 15 years. There are six other doctors available at this establishment, but Dr. Siebert is the only one I have personal experience with. Dr. Siebert loves cats and keeps several "rescues" at his own home. He has "saved" my Ming from a serious flu-like infection, and kept him healthy and happy with Asthma for many years. Because of his age, we are giving Ming minimal care for his CRF, but he is thriving after several years. Ming has been on fluids for one year now. The hospital is always busy, is open 7 days a week, employs wonderful pet loving people, and does great work. They have outgrown their present location and will be moving to a brand new building as soon as they get it built. I also have had a great experience w/ Dr. Steve Scibelli who has recently relocated (8-2006) to the Santa Margarita Animal Care Center in Rancho Santa Margarita, CA. He was great and was actually the vet that found the mass on my cat's (Baci) pancreas. Also, he was wonderful in helping us w/Marvin's throat cancer and was so kind when we had to end Marvin's life. One thing Dr. Scibelli did was make sure vet techs put in IV line in so there would be no problems delivering the meds. He told us that it can be very difficult to locate veins in sick dehydrated (and older) animals. This made the experience much more tolerable. Dr. Scibelli has a great gift with animals ... especially cats and he has so much compassion and kindness for the animals...and for the HUMANS. He's able to solve problems and is really intelligent...capable of making accurate diagnosis. Dr. Scibelli also changed my dog to Lotensin for her heart condition. I was VERY IMPRESSED w/this young man. I have since read so many sad stories about bad endings from people on the Yahoo Feline Cancer Group. Dr. Scibelli's wife is veterinary neurologist. There are two vets here - one is holistic/homeopathic (Dr. Pamela Bouchard) and although the other (Dr. Rachel Griffith) is not, I don't think she is 100% western and seems open to different types of treatments. I shopped around for a few vets until I found this one. The office is an older Victorian that has a homey feel. Unlike visits to my previous vet, I do not feel rushed here. When I call I am not put on hold for ten minutes only to have someone get back on the line impatiently asking me what I want. The technicians are very nice and are obviously animal lovers. They are open 7 days. It also helps they are about a 3 minute drive from where I live. Even if they weren't, I would take the time to drive here. 3/11/08 - Colleen Murtha |

Dr. Hiatt, and his vet tech wife, have a mobile clinic in their motor home and only do house calls. They are lovely people and make your pet very comfortable. I've used Dr. Hiatt for acupuncture, blood pressure monitoring, blood work, and a dental on my one of my non-CRF kitties. I've spent a lot of time talking to him, and he's very knowledgeable when it comes to CRF and diabetes. I wouldn't hesitate to use him as primary vet for OJ, but we already had a good one, before we met him. Jeanne George aka Catalyn -- 12/7/03 |

Dr. Swindall is very knowledgeable about both CRF and diabetes. She's also very willing to work with you, and interested in the things you learn from the list. She's able to "think outside the box", and will take any suggestions you make seriously. In addition this clinic is open Monday through Saturday from 7:30 AM to 7 PM, and Sunday from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM. They have some arrangement with the Emergency clinic two doors down, and you can arrange to have your kitty taken there, if they need to stay overnight for treatment. Jeanne George aka Catalyn 12/7/03 I highly recommend this clinic and in particular, Dr. Mao. My 5 year old cat "crashed" (though I didn't know what was going on at the time) and Dr. Mao and her team nursed her back to heath and have been so helpful in terms of recommending additional therapies and providing information with genuine care and compassion. Jim Olson (Castle Rock, CO) is one of the most knowledgeable vets out there. He's expensive, but worth it. Better yet, he'll train you, as the owner of the pet, to give fluids, take blood sugar readings, and give injections. My old cat was a transient diabetic, and several of my friends have diabetic cats. He taught us how to draw blood and create baseline readings so that we would know when to get back to him with changes. My old cat also required sub-q fluids daily. Again, he showed you how to do it and saved you numerous trips back down to Castle Rock. I know they also arranged for older clients to have people come by daily to give fluids to their pets, as well. He's a gentle, caring vet. 5/4/07 -- Linda Fried |

I took my CRF kitty to Dr. Horst for 5 years. I have watched every doctor there in action and observed their knowledge level in regards to CRF. Every single vet there is someone I would recommend, but especially Drs. Horst, Smith, and Rachwal. They are all very educated on CRF, current with the latest treatments, and very open to their clients' ideas and suggestions. In fact, when I had done a lot of research on certain things, and brought it up to Dr. Horst, if she didn't know much about it, before she said no, or brushed it off, she would do her own research, and only when she felt comfortable giving me a recommendation would she inform me. All the doctors there are open to, and encourage, alternative medicine, such as acupuncture, as an adjunct to western medicine. Dr. Horst, the other doctors, and the entire staff, from receptionist, to billing, to vet techs, always treated me and Farley with the utmost respect, compassion and concern. They have an excellent, modern facility, capable of performing various types of surgeries, radiologic tests, labs, boarding and so much more. They are also AAHA certified. I would highly recommend them, and would be happy to speak to anyone who has any questions or wants additional information. 8/15/08 -- Justine Rene |

[Written when Dr. Marsh-Ng was at Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists in Houston, Tx] Internal Medicine - Dr. Michelle Marsh-Ng - This doctor is my new hero. Her kindness and concern in caring for Lacey, her willingness to go out of her way to help, and her cooperation in all manner of exigencies have been beyond my wildest expectations. She has treated Lacey as if she was her own cat and makes it seem as though Lacey were the only animal she is treating! She has called often (sometimes twice a day during the really bad times) to check on her and always answers my calls to her or returns them promptly. She doesn't talk down to me and shows courtesy, respect, and sensitivity to a caregiver's needs, never makes me wait endlessly and cooperates in reducing costs and securing medications from less expensive sources, for example. Her patience in answering all manner of questions from litter box problems to things I hear about through the online crf group is incredible. And if she doesn't know an answer, she doesn't hesitate to say so and then finds out for me. When Lacey is hospitalized, she is the only one who will make sure that she's clean and well cared-for. And she lets me know in advance when she is going to be away since she knows that she is the only one I trust with Lacey. She is the most humane doctor that I have ever met, the perfect vet (and she's just starting out)! I believe that Lacey's wonderful condition right now is a product of her absolutely unbelievable participation with me every step of the way. 3/7/02 - Hazel Greenberg |

Dr. Fallek is a homeopathic vet who helped two of my cats, TsuHsi and Muggins, toward the end of their lives. TsuHsi had cancer and Muggins had kidney disease (for which he was being treated) and developed a lung tumor before I even brought him in to see her. She bought them a lot more time in which they lived happy, non painful lives, and I did not have to resort to invasive methods. Though hesitant to treat Muggins because he was so advanced and she didn't want to waste my money, I begged her. She now claims that he changed her practice because of the amazing results he had under her care. She is kind, compassionate, quick to return calls, and very thorough. She is fantastic. I moved to Apopka in 2003 after several years of musical vets and homes with two senior cats named Phoebe and Tasha. They were 14 years old at the time and Tasha was known as the 'terrible twin' by most vets. But these vets and their wonderful staff took excellent care of my babies, and when Phoebe was diagnosed with crf in 2005, they went far beyond that in helping me deal with it. They taught me how to do fluids at home, and tolerated my anxious phone calls when Phoebe was hospitalized. When the end came, I had Phoebe's favorite vet there, and her favorite tech. They stayed with me afterwards even though it was Saturday morning and very busy. They always gave me options without regard to cost and were honest with me about possibilities for life. So naturally when I adopted three more from our local shelter, back I went. Now the oldest of those three is also in kidney failure and they are doing a wonderful job helping me deal with this, again. -- 3/11/08 - Karen Wilson |

Since my cat, Fribble, was diagnosed just a couple weeks ago with CRF, these vets have gone above and beyond what they've needed to do to help make me and my cat more comfortable with the CRF diagnosis and treatment. Once the decision to treat my kitty was made, they were ready to go with a plan of action that while, stressful at first, has been amazingly effective at getting Fribble feeling better! His office is impeccable, he has state of the art equipment and he keeps up to date with all the newest info by attending seminars and keeping current with all the latest studies. My cat Sally Ride was literally dying from the effects of diagnosed inflammatory
bowel disease when Anyes suggested we get an appointment with Dr. Stubbs.
I had already taken her to five general practitioners and two Internal

Sally Ride's IBD under excellent control -- she's now 18 1/2 and enjoying

Varying levels of treatment based on vet, yet they all have strengths: Drs Hollis & Beau are good long term & diagnostic & communicativeness, Dr. Hautzinger is gentle in manner for blood draws and BP, Dr. Wake is good for emergency stuff and will calm a person down in a panic situation. I guess what I really like about his facility is that now matter what they truly care about the animals. It can be a little question that I might think is stupid and they take their time so that I can understand what they have explained. I can say that I have referred quite a few people to him and they have told me thank you. If I have an emergency they will ask me to bring over the cat as soon as I possibly can. And they may do this for me only because I have been so loyal. Not only do they teach me, but I have taught them some things on pedigree cats too. 3/11/08 - Dawn Faust |

After finding your site I couldn’t help but write to recommend Dr. Jennifer Perusek of Animal Clinic of Granger. My family and pets were spending a couple of weeks in the South Bend, IN area last summer to visit friends and spend some time at Lake Michigan. Our cat became ill, would not eat or drink, and basically became non-responsive. We took our pet to another clinic in the area only to be told nothing could be done and euthanasia was recommended. Our family decided we needed another opinion, and on the advice of our friends, saw Dr. Perusek at Animal Clinic of Granger. Within three days our cat was up and around, eating normally, and back to her old self. It was so nice to have a veterinarian take the time to discuss options with us and take a genuine interest in the health of our pet. Thank you Dr. Perusek. 4/7/09 -- Joshua Scheller |

Dr. Alice Johns was one of the first veterinarians in the nation to be certified as a diplomate of feline practice by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners. Dr. Johns is always available to speak with me about Lucky and returns phone calls promptly. If a trip is made to the emergency clinic, she calls me first thing the next morning to follow up. She takes the time to help me understand and doesn't get annoyed when I ask her to repeat things. She's open for discussion on all issues and even cooperates with our other (retired) vet, Dr. Carolyn Blakey, who treats with alternative methods. A great example of the care given by Dr. Johns is that she refused to do Lucky's dental on the same day she was doing three others. Why? Because she wanted to have plenty of time for US! The procedure was done today and Lucky was the ONLY ONE scheduled for today. That says it all! She's concerned not only with her patients' needs, but those of their human "parents!" She called me every step of the way to let me know what had been done and what she was doing next. The moment Lucky was finished, we were called and invited to come sit with him as he was recovering. Dr. Johns is one of a kind! 3/2/02 - Sheri |

This clinic is staffed with a Vet 24 hours a day/7 days a week. I reside in Kenner, LA, which is a suburb of New Orleans. The clinic is about 20 miles from my home and an easy drive. Dr. Catherine Garon is a Board Certified Specialist in Small Animal Internal Medicine and part owner of the clinic. She is absolutely marvelous. Dr. Garon has pulled several of my cats from death's door. She is not only highly competent and professional but down to earth and explains everything in detail. She and her staff work with the client and they willingly give prescriptions for CRF supplies, etc. They understand the expense pet owners go through and work with you. I worked closely with her on one of my cats who had the GIF tube implanted. It is a port for delivering sub-q fluids. I highly recommend Dr. Garon to any pet owner in need of a specialist. Dr. Jenifer Crawford is my primary Vet. She, too, has been wonderful. She is currently treating one of my cats for renal failure and another for chronic pancreatitis. One time, I had to take a sick kitty with me to GA as my elderly mother was ill. Dr. Crawford called long distance every day for an update. She willingly answers questions and researches alternative drugs and treatment protocols. I highly recommend her. As an aside, it is so reassuring to have a clinic open 24/7. Several years back, while in Houston, another one of my kitties with renal failure and pancreatitis starting going down hill on a Sunday. I called the clinic as I was leaving for home. The Vet on duty was great. She said to call as I crossed the Mississippi River bridge in Baton Rouge so they would be ready for me. I did and as soon as I pulled in the clinic's parking lot, the Vet and a tech ran out to meet me. I have called "after hours" numerous times about one of my cats. Dr. Sinclair and her staff have taken incredible care of my two nearly 18 year old cats both of whom have CRF. The staff could not be friendlier or more capable, and Dr. Sinclair herself is outstanding. She is active in VIN, and keeps up to date on all the latest treatments. From a "bedside manner" standpoint, she can't be beat. She draws the perfect balance in being compassionate and caring, yet straight-forward and honest. I've never walked away with a feeling of "I'm not doing enough" or "I'm doing too much." I got cases of Abbot labs Normosol R for my CRF dog for 41 dollars per case from a vet! I also got needles there for 7 cents per needle. In the years of dealing with the dog's, Jack, health issues this vet was one of the kindest, most thorough and ethical people I have ever met. God I loved him. His name is Robert DuBois and he is located in Brentwood Maryland. When I initially called his practice he came to the phone himself after learning I was shopping for a vet experienced in managing a pet with renal problems. He also took a great deal of time with us upon the initial visit. He does handle cats. He has several cats in the back of his clinic that were dumped off for one surgical procedure or illness or another and the people never claimed them. He doesn't put them down or out. He houses and cares for them, until an appropriate person comes along who can give a cat a good home. Dr. DuBois is exceptional human being and one hell of a vet. 2/27/03 - Beth Townsley |

I have ... found, after a very long search, a really good cat clinic in Maryland, appropriately named *A Cat Clinic* and located in Boyds Maryland, out by Germantown. The owner, Dale Rubenstein, DVM, ... has some very excellent credentials. She is also excellent with the cats and is very communicative with clients ... one of the many things I liked about her was her receptiveness to having a client who can use and understand "vetspeak" and who does a lot of research on his/her own and has opinions on veterinary issues. She also initiates and returns phone calls and emails with clients. I've sent her a number of research articles on interesting aspects of veterinary interest (e.g., the recently started "rabies challenge study" to determine the real efficacy and need for boosters for rabies vaccinations). She always replies and offers her take on the things I send her. She understands why I do not vaccinate my cats any more (most are old and have chronic ailments and compromised immune systems), and accepts that. As you know, many vets resent clients who have, and exercise, their lay knowledge of things veterinary, and who take their roles as petparents and as their animals' advocates seriously ... She actually appreciates that approach. She will also do housecalls for established clients. 01/04/07 - Dick Weavil, Rockville, MD |

I have been a client of Dr. Moran's for 18+ years. She never fails to be responsive and compassionate when presented with an ailing feline. Over the years we have dealt with the normal URI's and pregnancy-related issues in a breeding cattery. She has also treated the more complicated issues of pyometria, supportive therapy in a variety of rare conditions, and refers to an appropriate specialist when needed. She has helped me when babies and adults crossed Rainbow Bridge, and is always responsive to a telephone call for assistance. I highly recommend her and the entire staff here. They are open 7 days a week from 7:30 to 10:00 and there is always a tech on duty overnight. The clinic is airy and clean with the latest equipment and there is also a groomer on duty. When my CRF cat needed professional grooming, the vet worked right along with the groomer to see that she was groomed safely and comfortably. Has a Doppler, carries Epogen in stock, knows crf better than any vet in the area (and I've tried lots of them). Is willing to give multiple transfusions and continue care despite age. Example: Arthhur-epogen antibodies-will get 3rd transfusion there tomorrow. Very very reasonably priced (best I've ever seen) for superb care. She is absolutely wonderful. Calls from home to check on patient. Takes calls immediately when you call with a concern. They have "24 hour" coverage with an answering service and will not send you to emergency clinics most of the time. I have finally found a truly great vet. 3/3/02 - Bonnie A. Cheak |

I found reference to Dr. Brum on the IMOM site. Someone had used him for their dog and loved him. Well, he's absolutely wonderful - great with animals and people. He is completely open to discussing treatment options, and welcomes input or questions from me. Dr. Brum looks at my info from the CRF list as something to examine and learn by, and is not insulted that I might suggest things he doesn't know about, or if I want to be more aggressive about treating a particular test result. As long as he thinks it's reasonable, he'll support me in it. He is not familiar with homeopathic treatments, but is open to them and recommended a homeopathic consultant. |

Dr. Brian Holub (owner) is outstanding - but the rest of his doctors are pretty fantastic too. Brian is not only an incredible vet - he's also a cat breeder so has an unusual understanding of cats. He's had great success in helping clients deal successfully with their CRF pet. I expected to lose my CRF kitty nearly 3 years ago, and she's continuing to do well.) I'm a former breeder who has lived in 4 different states (and also worked for my vet in another state) - Brian is the best vet I've ever met, and I'd had some great vets before moving to this area. The office staff is extremely helpful as well. This office is the third largest in Massachusetts (after Tufts and Angell Memorial) and has equipment to equal or surpass most doctors' offices! There are 3 vets that work there, and all are excellent with my cats. The techs are also very compassionate and helpful. Dr. Ternes is the primary physician at the hospital. Dr Tapscott originally diagnosed my baby, and Dr. Willard has also seen him. The vets discuss cases amongst themselves to brainstorm other solutions, or possibilities. All have been very forthright in what my options are, and are flexible with payment plans... We all know this can get expensive. Everyone from the office manager to the techs to the vets know Oliver and care how he is doing. They make frequent calls to see how he is doing. They are all very aware of what is going on in the veterinary community, who does transplants, new drugs new treatments and explain the pros and cons of each and how well it has been tested and the results. They also value the cat's quality of life, don't encourage procedures simply because they are available. -- Amy E. Dwyer The Feline Hospital on Webb Street in Salem is totally two thumbs up. Dr. Pillsbury is a fantastic vet and great CRF resource! I took my little guy, Rupert, to see her for what I thought may be a behavioural change - he'd been urinating on some plastic that was placed in my house for renovation. Dr. Pillsbury noted he had some white blood cells in his urine and suggested follow-up blood work, which revealed early stages of CRF. She is very compassionate and certainly knows about CRF kitties - she has been looking after her own little girl w. CRF for 2 - 3 years. She started Rupert on Normosol fluids and a potassium supplement right away, with a regimen to ensure his blood work is monitored every 2 - 3 months. MJ Johnson -- 8/22/05 She has been absolutely fantastic, as are all the vets at this hospital. One vet, Dr. Matyas, diagnosed my little guy w. HCM and recommended atenolol for him which has kept him ticking along for over 3 years (he is now 17 years old). Last summer, I took my little guy in to be checked for a UTI (he was peeing inappropriately), and Dr. Pilsbury immediately suspected, tested and diagnosed CRF. She recommended additional medication and sub-q fluids which has incredibly helped him! His blood values have stabilized on the low end and he's been doing VERY well for a year. Not only was Dr. Pilsbury open to learning about alternative treatments such as slippery elm bark, she has started recommending it to her other CRF kitties. She is kind, compassionate and completely committed to the best care for elderly kitties. In fact, my non-CRF baby who is 16 years old benefited from her compassionate care - she noted he was a bit 'crackly' and recommended chondroitin for his joints. Incredible response! What a tremendous vet!!! MJ Johnson -- 5/9/2006 |

I am a certified veterinary technician and I have worked for Dr. Kim Gallenberg since January 1999. She and the doctors at Barrington Oaks provide outstanding services and care to geriatric patients, including cats with chronic renal failure. They provide excellent resources in the areas of diagnostics, treatment and hospital care and client instruction. As an owner of Persian cats, Dr. Kim has supportively treated several of her own animals and knows first-hand what is involved with maintaining the quality of life for your aging cat. She provides care for my own two geriatric cats. The facility offers a geriatric special every year in January and February, providing a discount on a package of diagnostic services for the geriatric patient. These services are beneficial in discovering early changes in kidney or liver function, providing a basis for monitoring the patient's health, or just providing a yearly baseline. I highly recommend their services as I know that they maintain a very high standard for the veterinary medical care of their patients. 1/26/03 -- Kristin Plummer, CVT |

Dr. Krogman has treated all three of my cats at one time or another. She worked diligently to save my first cat from dying at the vet hospital. When we took my cat in to the vet, she was in acute renal failure. Unfortunately I hadn't recognized the signs early enough and she had lost 1/3 of her weight and subsequently spent 4 days and 3 nights on IV's at the hospital when we were told her chances were 50-50. She was given an expected life span of 4 months. Eventually she came home and with the assistance of Dr. Krogman, daily sub-q fluids and eventually epogen treatment, my cat went on to live another year and a half with very close to a normal quality of life until the very end. My cat was noted as a remarkable CRF case and I have to assume at least some of that responsibility is due to Dr. Krogman's experience, diligence and her clear compassion for animals. By the way, the personnel at Northside Animal Hospital are all wonderful kind people. They are very easy people to work with. 3/21/08 - Nancy Atkinson |

They are up to date on EVERYTHING. One of the owners of the practice is also a board certified avian vet. They also specialize in exotics. I use Dr Kupersmith but all of the 4 drs are excellent. 11/28/07 - LeeAnn Cohen |

In particular, Dr. Hunton (no longer here) or Dr. Niebojeski. We have been taking our cats there for 12 years. While I have never had a CRF cat (though we were close with Lynx), everything I have heard them say about CRF leads me to believe they would be excellent. |

There are ten doctors in the group. I have had experience with two so far, Dr. Stan Bladek and Dr. Kristin Lind, plus numerous members of the staff. Both doctors and each and every person I’ve worked with there has been knowledgeable, professional, courteous, compassionate and very patient when I was more than a little freaked out about how sick my cat was. This is the only 24-hour emergency care veterinary hospital in Sussex County. The facility is clean and modern and they have many other services available such as grooming, a retail store and pet boarding. Their website is well organized and has lots more information on it. Something that has been very important (and needed by me more than once) was, if your cat is one of their patients and you are having trouble doing the Sub-Qs at home, they will let you bring your Sub-Q kit and pet in for them to do it and they won’t charge you a visit. This really helped us until we finally figured out how to do it. I very highly recommend them. 11/28/07 - Nadine DeBlock |

This is a full service animal hospital with quite a few vets on staff. My normal vet is Joanne DeSanto and I have been bringing my cats to her since 1995. She is a very dedicated and knowledgeable vet. The one thing I love about her is that she understands how much I will do for my cats and advises me accordingly as to what the treatment should be. She has always been positive yet very honest with me concerning my cat's CRF treatment. This animal hospital is very up-to-date in it's medical procedures and is the top rated hospital in my area. They will be opening up a new facility in Paramus, NJ in 2003, that will have state-of-the-art surgical facilities. They also have satellite offices in Fort Lee and Hasbrouck Heights, NJ.-- 10/24/02 -- Cat DeNigris |

I've returned to my former vet, though he's over 60 miles away. I not only feel he is a good vet for geriatric cats, but for all cats, make that all animals. He saved a cat of mine 20 years ago, when he was new to practice, that should not have survived. I don't think his people skills are the greatest, but I think his medical skills are wonderful. Other vets, including the University Hospital, refer non-routine surgical procedures to Dr. Harris. I am not overly fond of all of the associates he has working for him, I will only accept appointments with him or Dr. Hallman. -- 6/19/02 -- E. Anne Favinger |

While I try to have my animals seen by the same vet each visit , sometimes it isn't always possible. Just when I think I've found the most compassionate and knowledgeable vet I could find, I meet another associate and am impressed all over again. The hospital stays up to date on all the latest advances in veterinary care including laser surgery, but they also practice herbal medicine and the owner Dr Voynick is a certified animal acupuncturist. I had to write a few words about our wonderful vet. Dr Pla has a caring and gentle bedside manner toward both his patient(s) and us. He has been open to discussions of alternative ideas, really listens to our concerns and encourages questions. Patience and gentle honesty with frightened parents has made this doctor this Kittymama's hero. The following is a statement from their website http://www.catsexclusive.net/welcome.cfm and is the truth: "Our high standards apply to all aspects of our organization. Headed by Dr. Jose S. Pla, DVM, the staff of Cats Exclusive knows that cat owners regard their pets as family members. We share this feeling." When little Sasha was diagnosed with kidney failure prior to a holiday weekend, Dr Pla made sure that I got to the office right away for all of her supplies and for a demonstration on how to administer IV fluids. The tech was as caring as could be and I truly appreciate all the kindness from this facility. I'll never take my cats to any other doctor. 6/29/07 - Carolyn & Craig Shea |

Our relationship with Dr. D started in 1998 when we moved to Westchester county. I knew he and his staff were caring, compassionate people who treated our cats well during routine check ups, dental cleanings, and vaccinations. It wasn't until April of 2002 that we realized this was a vet that would be there when the going got tough. Our older cat Cleo had swallowed a mole, whole, that was lodged in her intestines. She couldn't budge it. Dr. D. acted swiftly and decisively in diagnosing the problem and operating. She's happy and healthy today with no complications. In April of 2003, our younger cat Jeter crashed and was admitted to an emergency clinic. After a prognosis of CRF and certain death and being given no hope, we transferred her out of that clinic and back to Dr. D. He was open to treating her CRF aggressively and understood immediately that we weren't going to give up without a fight. His entire staff is caring and taught us how to do fluids. AND, they are supportive as we attempt to get Jeter healthy enough for a kidney transplant. Alan & Jennifer Alvarez -- 5/26/03 |

A routine blood test at an annual check-up 2 1/2 years ago indicated that one of my male Siamese had renal problems - he was 14 years old at the time. We controlled it with diet -thanks in large measure to thissite until the last month at which point we've moved onto infusions every other day. The vet has been supportive & helpful throughout: open to ideas I've found; willing to consider alternative foods & order any she deemed appropriate; patient with my questions; etc. R.Kathleen Dillon -- 7/25/04 Beagle went into a sudden decline & died within days about 3 1/2 years after his initial diagnosis. Animal Kind did a great job of making his final moments (and ours) as easy as possible. His half-brother Nik was diagnosed with a renal problem a year later. Nik's very picky about what he eats so modified diet wasn't an option. He's been on infusions - now up to twice a day - for a little over a year & is doing well. AK are again supportive: not pushing office visits since they're obviously stressful but offering support & giving recommendations via e-mail & telephone. Their medical facilites are cutting-edge but their compassion is timeless. R.Kathleen Dillon -- 3/22/07 [Editor's note -- Dr. Mateyak is one of 9 veterinarians practicing at Animal Kind.] |

I would like to specifically recommend Catherine Langston at the Animal
Medical Center in New York City. She is the major renal specialist there
.. and one of the top specialists in the country. She had treated
my Maine Coon, Mia, for about 18 months. Mia forms kidney stones easily
and has had two episodes of acute kidney failure due to kidney blockages
and chronic kidney disease (one non functioning kidney and one very compromised).
Dr. Langston has been wonderful. She has come in from vacation to personally
start her on dialysis. Mia's kidney function has not deteriorated in the
time Dr. Langston has been treating her and the stone formation has been
halted (though she still has several, they are not increasing in size and
no new ones are forming). Dr. Langston will take the time to explain everything
and really knows her stuff and what is happening around the country in
terms of new treatments and research. Here is the link to her CV:

Dr. Betton is a mobile vet serving the Triangle area and a little beyond where feasible. He cares for my eight cats (two CRF) as if they were his own and doesn't hesitate to attend after hours if an emergency occurs. He is a native of Italy and the cats seem to be soothed by his soft accent. I have several semi-feral rescues who have drawn blood from their doc on more than a few occasions but he still comes back! He is extremely knowledgeable and skillful and charges reasonable prices. Having my pets treated at home means far less stress for them -- and me! Hillary Brookes 4/23/03 Dr. Betton first came to us to treat our dog Bo. No amount of medication or muzzle would allow us to take him to the vet, so Betton has been a life-saver for Bo. It took me awhile to catch on that he provides all variety of veterinary services, including annual physicals. Most recently, he cared for my cat Scout during her fatal bout with pyelonephritis. I couldn't have asked for a more knowledgeable and caring doctor to help Scout (and me) through a very difficult time. My husband and I both recommend him highly. Grazie mille, Dr. Betton. Sally L. No glitz or glamour, this old fashioned country clinic is now found in the center of sprawling suburbia and on the cutting edge of feline medicine. After scouring ten of Cleveland's west side suburbs, Avon Animal Hospital, owned by Dr. Martti Putkonen, was the only practice to be found with the Doppler equipment to do proper feline blood pressure testing and years of experience in using it and treating the feline hypertension so profoundly important to the CRF cat. Practitioner Dr. Anita Poling, a cat owner and lover herself, takes a special interest in feline renal failure and is on top of all the latest findings including Ohio State's Dr. Larry Nagode's Calcitriol studies and is a regular user of the therapy. This is also the practice that sells a Kidney Failure Diet Package, a sampler of most, if not all, of the available canned and dry prescription renal diets available for our all too finicky CRF cats to taste test. -- Rachel Taylor |

I've been very pleased with my vet and would recommend her to others treating CRF kitties (or any other kitties for that matter). She has been very helpful, is knowledgeable about CRF and has been cooperative about helping me keep costs down by giving prescriptions when I find cheaper online sources. I would like to add my support to Dr. Linda Mitchel of Ohio listed on your web site. Only, she is no longer with Blue Cross Hospital; she's hung out her own shingle and can be found at Rainbow Vet Clinic, 2636 Noble Road, Cleveland Heights, OH 44118. I had a diabetic, later crf cat and we loved Dr. Mitchell who greatly assisted us in doing home care when feasible. They have two Board certified feline specialists and were the only place I found that would even talk about things to keep my cat Christopher going after his kidney problems were found. They have all the latest equipment and most important have the patience to work with people like me. 4/17/04 I have been a client of Cats Only for over 16 years, and wouldn't take my cats anywhere else. Cats Only has board certified feline specialist vets on staff that are considered experts in their field. They are always up on the latest cat medicine research. The hospital and equipment is top-of-the-line, the staff is friendly and obviously very caring about cats. They even have a hospice program that has been a big help in the past. They are not the least expensive, but the care is well worth it. Stephanie Miller -- 5/24/06 This is an amazing, high tech veterinary clinic with the very best cat vets and staff. . I recommend Gettysburg Animal Hospital. They have no specialists, but we found all 4 veterinarians excellent - knowledgeable, concerned, informative. And they are very reasonably priced - which is partly because they do not take credit, only checks or cash. All the staff were helpful and good at handling cats. Also, they run their own 24 hour service, so even in an emergency you get to see a vet you know. We have only 2 cats now, both geriatric, and have experience over many years of cats and their health problems. We have recently had to move away and we miss GAH very much - we haven't found a vet's office in Pittsburgh to match them (of the ones taking new patients, that is). -- 11/25/02 -- Nicola Coohill |

We changed to Rau/Dr. White after a diagnosis with feline CRF. Dr. White does a very thorough manual physical exam of the internal organs and offers a lot of options and information. I was told by one of the staff members that she has done additional research and work with feline kidney problems. The practice is clean and friendly and has terrific hours. They sell the prescription foods by the can so you can try out different ones to find what works (they have 3 varieties for CRF cats) and can also order it by the case. They offer 2 types of CRF dry food, which you do need to buy in a fairly large bag. They are a little on the pricey side, but with a sick pet especially, they do take a lot of time with you and you feel you are getting very thorough care. They will write prescriptions for the fluids, needles, and tubing so you can order online. 2/18/07 -- Carla Loughlin |

Dr. Karen Fling started this practice, we see her as well as Dr. Gloria Johnson [now at Katy Trail in Dallas] and Dr. Molly Deason. This facility is state-of-the-art, so prices may be a little higher, but I feel they are definitely worth it. The caring that comes from this practice is unbelievable. They spend the time they need with you and your baby(s), nurses or the doctor will call you after an illness, crisis, surgery to check up on things. The doctors keep each other informed so if you see someone else, they are typically up to speed. They also now stay open on Sundays. Awesome vets! If you supply them with an online cost for RX (has to be written and up-to-date) they will honor that cost at the clinic. Dr Deason even TOLD me about HydroVet.com for Dude's supplies because fluids can be so expensive. In addition, Dr. Fling has a pet orphanage in the main lobby and has been honored in Dallas for her efforts at spay-neuter education and practice. Kathy Moll -- 7/19/06 I would like to recommend a wonderful vet group in Dallas, Texas that I just sadly left because I had to move to Birmingham, AL. Eastlake Vet Clinic is wonderful. Their website is http://www.welovepets.net. My favorite vets are Dr.Karen Fling, who owns the practice, and Dr. Molly Deason (Dr. Deason is part-time due to small children). They truly emphasize caring and compassion and really intereact with you and your babies. They have been wonderful in supporting me and Dude through his 2 years of sub-q. Beau is not on sub-q yet, as he seems to be maintaining on his own. Kathy Moll -- 2/13/07 Dr. Jacob Worthington saw my Buddy on a couple occasions when I was unable to get an appointment w/ my primary vet. He was very knowledgeable about CRF and explained everything thoroughly and patiently. Cecilie Wilhelm -- 3/30/07 |

Owner is Dr. Baxter. We usually see Dr. Bratton. Everybody there is wonderful! They have been our cat care center since 1975 - in sickness and in health, as you might say. They are the first vet that allowed me to be present when the time came for an aged cat to be euthanized (not everybody would want to go through that, but for that cat I wanted to be there). Current patients include a 19 year old ASH Tabby who is in amazingly good shape for her age (2x daily thyroid and 2x weekly arthritis meds) and a 12 year old Maine Coon. They have seen us through a major health crisis with the Maine Coon after a severe life threatening toxic reaction of unknown origins; and now are helping us through CRF with the same cat (initially diet control, recent initiation of SubQ 2x week). They are knowledgeable, but open and willing to listen to owner generated research and questions. Good referrals on specially compounded medications (cream in the ears as opposed to "pilling" for daily medication of chronic conditions). Catte Nappe -- 5/8/06 |

I have been using this vet since Dec 2001. It is a husband and wife team. They can do all of the lab work in their mobile clinic. My pets, cat with CRF and regular old dog, are much more relaxed in her clinic than they were when we used to have to load them in the car and go to a noisy vet office. Dr. Becky is very compassionate and understanding. She is very experienced especially in the care of geriatric pets. You can view her resume on her web site. She will take as long as necessary with your appointment to be sure you understand any required treatment. These folks are just terrific! -- 8/13/02 -- Robin West |

I highly recommend Dr. Carolyn Rigioni of All Cats clinic here in Houston. Thanks to her Ginger was caught early in CRF and we could start treatments right away. The 1 pound weight loss was Dr. Rigioni first clue something might be wrong! She said in us and say a big dog or 20 pound cat, 1 pound is not a big deal to lose but in a small dog or 8 pound cat it is a big deal. I owe her Ginger's life because other than her weight loss, she acted healthy. Lynn-- 3/22/03 |

I just had my 21 yr. old cat treated there for end stage kidney disease & they have a very comprehensive treatment plan -- able to treat to whatever extent you medically would like to go. Very computerized, up-to- date facility compared to a lot of vets. More like your pediatrician office! Dr. Rose was very informative as to my choices & ultimately very caring as to my desires & just how much to intervene at the very last when my cat finally died. Don't think my cat would have lived this long without their help & support. Also had two 19 yr. old cats. There are four doctors at this facility that is located in close-in Memorial. I highly recommend them. Karen Blackwell -- 5/30/04 |

I would like to comment on Dr. Kevin Hahn ... When my cat, Miss Kitty
was diagnosed with cancer, we were referred to Dr Hahn. He practices one
day a week in San Antonio, TX, at the Veterinary Referral and Emergency
Center. Phone: 210-822-1913. We saw him every month for a year. He
was very patient in explaining all my options and helped me find a compounding
pharmacy for Miss Kitty’s medicines. He worked well with
my regular veterinarian in coordinating Miss Kitty’s treatment.
And, as it says on the oncology portion of the GCVS website, he really
is an Overall Nice Guy. Patricia

Hello - I would like to attest to the advanced care and human humanity that Dr Grasso provided to my sick cat guess and me. Guess came in with some sort of urinary track issue that prevented him from urinating and immediately relieved Guess of his pain and performed a procedure to remove a blockage. At first we felt we were going to have to put him down, but after Dr. Grasso's care, we did not. It's since been 4yrs and Guess is doing great. And, I should add, the fee charged for this procedure was well below what other vets in my area charged. Dr. Dugan is THE most caring, most knowledgeable veterinarian one can find. She helped me with a beloved cat named Wilma, many years ago. Wilma had CRF. We hoped for six additional months for her, under Dr. Dugan's expert plan including fluids, special diet and perhaps other interventions that I have forgotten. Instead of six additional months, Wilma lived a happy six additional YEARS! Dr. Dugan counsels her cat patient owners helping them understand there are treatments that, at first, may seem stressful, but with the love between the cat and his owner, along with Dr. Dugan's love for all cats, turn out to be low stress, even quality time for the person and his/her beloved cat. More recently my most beloved cat Otis, lived a much longer, healthier life in spite of CRF under Dr. Dugan's continual expert and caring direction. We gave Otis fluids, supplements and other appropriate medications. When one type supplement was not easy to administer she helped me find alternate ways to give the supplement so that Otis was not at all stressed. She helped me procure a blood pressure monitor to check his blood pressure daily, at home. When Otis's heart began having difficulty handling the fluids that had kept him so very happy for years, Dr. Dugan was so very gentle with Otis that he allowed her to X-ray him frequently, as tried to find an amount of fluid that would keep his kidneys happy, while not overtaxing his heart. Otis lived to be 19 years old. I miss him very, very much, but I know he had the very best, most expert and most caring veterinary care possible. I would recommend Dr. Dugan with absolutely no reservations. She truly understands how very much we love our kitty babies, and she is ready to help us care for the kitties with great expertise, and respect for the dignity of the pet. Phyllis Bishop -- 10/23/09 "Dr. Carol" Dugan is, quite simply, a life-saver -- not only for critically ill felines, but for their critically anxious companions. My Ollie and Matilda owe their extra years of life after diagnosis to Carol's superior care. I owe Carol my sanity. She is forbidden to retire. My new cat family are loyal patients. Frankly, I'm trying to convince her to open her practice to humans.... Jessica Waugh - 10/25/09 I am recommending Gayton Animal Hospital. Dr. Dugan and Dr. Moon have been taking care of our cats for over 23 years. Luckily when we first moved to Richmond and needed a vet, I cold called GAH and the receptionist was so nice and friendly that I took our first cat there and have been thankful every day that I did. We have had a total of nine cats through out the years and with each one came different problems and conditions. With Dr. Dugan’s expert treatments and care, the ones who have passed on all lived longer than I thought they would. They lived good quality lives. Dr. Dugan and the other staff are so very kind and companionate to the human companions when euthanasia has to take place. At this point in the human’s life they need it. After all our companion animals are our family too. Tom & Sharon Clarke - 10/29/09 |

For vets in Western Washington, I still highly recommend the Cat Doctor in Federal Way. The practice was recently sold because Dr. Haupt and Dr. Joanna G. retired. Dr. Craig Tebeau and his wife Nettie are continuing the same high level of care with compassion that has always been practiced by all the vets at the Cat Doctor. I moved 45 minutes away from their practice 4 years ago, but continue to subject my Jester to long car rides for their excellent care. During his recent CRF crisis, the patience and understanding I received from Dr. Craig and the entire Cat Doctor staff was outstanding and has helped me tremendously in adjusting to Jester’s new reality. I give this clinic and Dr. Norstrem my highest recommendation. I have two senior girls with CRF. I've tried several vets in our area, but none of them are as compassionate, knowledgeable and ethical as Dr. Norstrem. He takes plenty of time with me and I'm not uncomfortable/rushed asking questions as I've been with other vets (one in a local clinic wouldn't even listen to me). The techs and office staff are also helpful and friendly and truly care about their feline and canine patients as individuals. What's really amazing is that Dr. N. is very reasonably priced-definitely the lowest in the area by far of those I've tried. I've asked him about additional tests (e.g; blood pressure) and while he could've easily taken my money, he doesn't tack on additional procedures just because he can. The quality and value here can't be beaten and I'm glad to to recommend this clinic to other CRF kitty parents. Monika Delle - 9/21/09 |

I don't have a specific vet recommendation, as they are all great. My cat Tigger was there with horrible kidney failure. He was there for 8 days and made a great recovery. It isn't cheap, but you get what you pay for. A vet is on site 24 hours a day, and your animal is checked on once an hour. That's better than I could do at home! I found Dr. Lynn Harbinson when searching for a vet at whom my rather antisocial cat, Mefed, would not hiss. Mefed chose wisely. In the last 10 years Dr. Harbinson has provided care that is both clinically excellent and caring. She has seen my cats through severe digestive tract ulcers, complications from dental resorbtive lesions, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) and chronic renal failure (CRF). She has an ongoing consulting relationship with the vet school at Washington State University, is proactive in keeping up with new research and treatments, and not only respects my input as a pet owner but has actively followed up on information I found in my own research. She understands the limits of feline cooperation and helped with alternatives when needed. Quality of life and comfort are embedded in her actions. When the time came, she provided caring guidance in determining when further intervention for Mefed's HCM would have been for my benefit rather than Mefed's. She is providing the same high standard of care for my cat Sidana, now 17, who was diagnosed with CRF nearly five years ago. I highly recommend Dr. Harbinson for anyone seeking a veterinarian and strongly urge anyone who has a cat with an ongoing medical condition to seek her out. arianwen@verizon.net |

Feline Home Health Care Dr. Laura Monahan Serving greater Seattle and the Northern King County area P.O. Box 82662 Kenmore, WA 98028 425-402-3744 Email: felinehomehealthcare@comcast.net |
Dr. Monahan was formerly at the Cat Clinic of Seattle and recently opened her own "cats only" house call practice. She has just acquired a Doppler so can monitor BP. I have found her to be very open to my input re: treating my cats, open minded about alternative remedies, and very conscientious. She does most inpatient care in the home, and refers emergencies, surgical procedures, dentistry, and x-rays to the veterinary hospital of your choice, or she can recommend a hospital. -- Beth |

She's a compassionate, very caring vet. Liane also volunteers her time to Noah's Pet Project--a free or low cost monthly clinic for people who cannot afford normal vet prices. A good person who really cares about animals. |

Dr. W uses cutting edge technology to match bloodwork to I131 dosage. He deals with very difficult cases of kitties with hyperT and late stages of crf and rarely has anyone “crash” because he’s so meticulous about his dosing. He only keeps the kitty interned as long as necessary to evacuate the I131 and be safe to go home. I can’t recommend him highly enough. 10/7/09 - Linda Irrgang |

Cat only clinic- I think this is great because, even though I adore dogs, there is no barking the atmosphere is calm and quiet. Boomer's vet is Dr. Linda Lobb (no longer there) -By the way, this clinic is celebrating their 25th anniversary. Must be doing something right ?! Dr. Lobb is one of 4 female vets at this clinic. Dr. Bobbi McClure (no longer there) treats our baby Peaches and is equally as good. Dr. Lobb is thorough and caring. Concerned about quality of life for the animal. Listens to you and your concerns and ideas. Appreciates the financial considerations of the pet owner. I can't say enough good things about this clinic. If you are fortunate enough to have a feline only vet in your area I highly recommend checking them out. -- Christina Ferguson |

We had to change vets, and have found Dr. Perry to be a caring doctor. He listens, asks questions about your pet, does thorough examinations and is very informative in his instructions regarding the care of your pet. He also is not as expensive as some of the other clinics in the area. We have been very happy with his services. 2/28/02 - Mary Kay Seabolt |

Have been going to Dr.Jeff for over 7 years now and he is a very good doc. When my Baby was dxd with crf, I had never even heard of it. He explained it to me and told me that it was not a death sentence and that our cats are livinig longer and longer with the disease. He showed me how to give subqs also. I always go in there with a list of questions and he always answers every one of them and never tries to rush me out of there. I would reccomend him to anyone. 12/01/07 - Chirstina Gallert |

I'd like to recommend the Veterinary Clinic where I've been taking
my cat Mishka for treatment of Kidney Disease and Hyperthyroidism.
I first brought her to this clinic last fall for a check up and for
treatment of arthritis. There is not one specific vet at this clinic that I can recommend as they've all collaborated together in her treatment. They have a full list of trained staff and technicians who as a whole, offer, homeopathy, nutrition, acupuncture, chiropractic, full service surgery, physiotherapy / rehabilitation, hydrotherapy, behaviorist, conventional medicine, grief counseling, and overnight monitoring. My cat is an indoor cat, and cannot stand being brought to the vet. In the past, once she came home from a vet visit, she'd hide for hours under the bed. Since I started taking her to this clinic, she comes home and reacts like she never even left the house. It's a calm, loving environment for animals. They are very compassionate, patient, understanding and kind. They have even taken the time to teach me how to do daily sub-q's at home and supervised my attempts. They are always available to answer questions and welcome owners to check in on their loved ones who may need to spend a day there for treatment. There is no where else I would consider taking my cat, or any other pet I might have in future.April Darsch -- 5/6/06 |

West Boulevard Veterinary Clinic Ltd (AAHA Member) Dr. Janne Potter 5383 West Blvd Vancouver, BC V6M 3W4 Map 604-266-7421 http://www.wbvc.bc.ca/ |
This Clinic is one of the best we have encountered with regard to knowledge, compassion and pro-active attitudes toward CRF. Dr. Potter has been practicing for over 26 years and is current in her knowledge and practice of treating CRF and older Cats. She just "has a way" with them. While the practice is for Western Medicine, Dr. Potter is well versed in Homeopathic Medicine. She is an Acupuncturist and is well-versed in non-traditional medicine. The Practice is very friendly, open and a really calm place to be. There is a "Cats Only" boarding facility within the Clinic. Fran Boyle -- 9/8/06 |

The Cat Clinic Dr. Elizabeth O'Brien DVM 391 Concession St Hamilton, ON L9A 1B8 Map 905-387-4151 http://thecatclinic.ca |
I'd like to recommend the clinic that takes care of my CRF kitty Garbo, and which also cared for 2 of our other elderly cats who had cancer. The Cat Clinic is located in Hamilton Ontario Canada (address below my signature) and belongs to Dr. Elizabeth O'Brien who is the only Board certified Feline Specialist in Hamilton, with only 4 in all of Canada. She and her staff are truly one in a million as not only are they brilliant medically they are also compassionate, understanding, and treat their clients like family. We came to them with literally no money and a terrible health crisis when one of our cats became mysteriously ill (eventually he was diagnosed with and died of cancer) but all they cared about was us bringing the cat in asap, saying that money wasn't important and could be handled later. We were struck by the level of ethics and caring and the willingness to let us slowly pay off our bill. Emotionally it has been very difficult having 3 elderly cats all develop diseases of old age at the same time but The Cat Clinic has made the rest easy, treating our animals with the highest level of medical care but also as tho' they were their own cats. Dr. O'Brien has educated us along the way, giving us every bit of information we need, including in-clinic lessons on how to administer subq's. I could go on and on telling you how much this clinic and it's staff have impressed us and taken care of us but I'll finish here and let you email me if you have any questions to ask in determining whether The Cat Clinic should be added to your list. Well, I'll add just one more thing... We were considering moving back to Toronto this year but decided against it because there is no way we could give up having one of the 4 best cat specialists in Canada as our vet! He kept the clinic open after hours and everyone stayed to operate on Noah til 12:30. Then he took him home and put him beside his bed, IV and all to watch over him. I love the Downtown Animal Hospital. I have a chronically sick young kitty and, as a result, have dealt with almost every doctor and technician at this hospital. Everyone is so caring, sympathetic and empathic. Even though my little kitty is sick I look forward to going there because, not only do they provide treatment for my girl, they comfort me and assure me I'm doing everything I can for her. I highly recommend the Downtown Animal Hospital to anyone I know who gets a new pet. Dr. Vihos is my kitties' vet and we adore her. But everyone there has been great. - 6/12/02 -- Lee Fay |

Sarah Caney is the top UK feline renal specialist, and she is currently based at Downland Veterinary Practice in Hampshire. If you have a cat with CRF, and you don't want to (a) give up on your cat, or (b) have to fight to educate your vet to get the appropriate treatments, there is no better place to go in the entire country. My cat was given a death sentence in 2004. It is now June 2006 and she is still with me, happy, healthy and full of fun. No-one would know she has a chronic illness. The practice also has other specialisms, and everyone there is friendly, caring and knowledgeable. Highly recommended. 6/2/06 -- Jaye |

I have found an angel for you ... a vet that *didn't* train in the UK and doesn't live in the dark ages. His name is Guy Heilpern - he likes Guy. He's an Israeli, and he performed a small miracle with me. He is pro subcutaneous fluids, he is pro treating CRF and doesn't see it as a death sentence. If you have a cat that needs attention NOW he will give it that attention NOW. I wish I had found him 4 months ago when his care could have saved my little girl. Alas, I didn't find him until the very end. But his approach is positive and helpful, and he's cost aware so long as you say he has to be - he actually recommends cost-effective treatments but he's not averse to the more expensive and experimental ones if you can afford it and are willing to try. He really is an angel. -- 5/4/05 - Natalie Jones |
