RECENT EXPERIENCE

09/2003-PRESENT INDUS CORPORATION of Vienna Virginia. Same job as below, system administration and support for large Beowulf clusters. Contract changed to INDUSCORP by NASA, job title changed to "technologist", workers in the task were forced to change companies.

08/2003-09/2003 Global Science and Technology, Greenbelt, Maryland Worked as a systems engineer on large Beowulf class computing machines. Provided system administration, user support, and hardware support for Thunderhead, Medusa , and several other large commodity clusters in code 935 at NASA GSFC. Unix system administration in a RedHat Linux environment.

 

03/2000-08/2003 Global Science and Technology, Greenbelt, Maryland. Contractor to NASA GSFC at the Laboratory for Extraterrestrial Physics.

I provided technical and engineering support for electronics instruments used in sounding rocket studies of the ionosphere and magnetosphere. Four successful launches of my payloads to-date.

Hand soldering , wiring, and mechanical assembly of flight hardware. My duties include; Circuit board construction, specifying and ordering parts, some circuit design, board layout, fabrication of mechanical and electrical components by hand. Experienced with payload integration of sounding rocket payloads at Wallops Flight Facility. Contract changed from RAYTHEON to GST in November , 2000.

 

10/99-3/2000 RAYTHEON ITSS Technician-Programmer in the Interplanetary Physics department of the Electrodynamics division at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. Working with prototype and flight electronics used for sounding rocket studies of the ionosphere and magnetosphere.

Previously worked as programmer-analyst for Raytheon ITSS at the Goddard Space flight Center, Greenbelt Maryland. Worked in the Sea Ice group, writing software for use of AVHRR and SSM/I data comparisons. Programming in C, and IDL on SGI IRIX platforms toward data extraction, calibration, griddling and masking applications programming. Preparation of plots and data visualizations using IDL, and C. Some experience with IRIX PCI. Light system administration and maintenance in a unix environment.

 

GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Embedded microcontroller applications using Microchip PIC microcontrollers. Use of PIC ASM and MPLAB IDE. Use of CCS C compiler for 18FXXX series microcontrollers.

Extensive experience with LF/HF radio transmission and reception. Experience with designing, fabricating, testing of HF SSB/CW transmitters , receivers, and antennas at power levels from milliwatts to over 2 KW.

Experienced with HF/VHF voice and CW radiocommunications via low earth orbit satellite.

Experienced with VHF weak signal over-the-horizon propagation media such as sporadic E, aurora, meteor scatter, backscatter, tropospheric ducting, etc.

System administration on Windows NT. Use of numerous windows based applications and tools. Use of essential networking tools (putty, telnet, ftp, etc.) .Experienced with assembling and troubleshooting computer hardware, operating systems, and networking. Use of spreadsheet and simulation and modeling software such as; Excel, Matlab, RocSim. Use of EDA software such as; Orcad Capture, Orcad Layout, and Multisim. And much, much more.

 

 Hobbies and Interests

Amateur Radio; I have been a licensed ham radio operator since 1971. I presently hold an Extra Class license, with the station call sign; AA8C.

High Performance computing; I presently own and operate a hand built 14 node experimental Beowulf cluster named "Proteus". The machine is highly parallel and runs MPICH as the parallel programming environment.
