The idea was born in 1942. A group of chemists and engineers at the DuPont Experimental Station near Wilmington, Delaware discovered that they shared a common interest in playing swing music. What followed was a non-profit, volunteer organization, named "The Rhythm Doctors" because most of the original members had Ph.D. degrees. Thus began 7 decades of spreading Big Band music.
A 17 piece big band, The Rhythm Doctors have been playing the Big Band sound throughout the mid-Atlantic region for dances, weddings, concerts, festivals, and private functions in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.
The smooth and powerful sound of this Big Band comes from four trumpets, four trombones, five saxophones, a rhythm section, and vocalists Pat Kerrigan and Ann Morris. We are proud of our Glenn Miller and Count Basie repertoire as well as our one-of-a-kind swinging arrangements that are custom-written by former director Warren Keyser.
