First Steps for Agility: For people *or* dogs brand new to agility. Combines agility equipment introduction and relationship training to develop your agility partnership. The dogs are introduced to each piece of equipment showing them the desired & safe way to negotiate it even if the equipment has to be modified i.e. the A-frame peak is lowered to about 3' off the ground; and the tunnel is only 3' long. Basic Skills for Agility: Teaches needed skills such as holding a stay - even when the owner moves. Staying in control when another dog moves around the agility course, and how to do an assisted recall from something really interesting; do a hand touch (handler focus), a send (obstacle focus) and a target touch (contacts) Obedience for Agility & Life in General: A new concept - for beginner dogs and puppies this is a class that combines obedience and a lead into agility training. Beginners level: is for dogs that have completed the First Steps course. We gradually bring the equipment to regulation standards - with the exception of the see-saw and the weave poles. Also the jump heights stay low for young dogs whose growth plates have not closed. We begin handling between obstacles and start simple side changes. Beginners II: continuation of Beginners Level classes. Pre-novice level: stresses weave pole performance and expects the other obstacles to be going at competition level. Sequencing extends to 6 to 8 obstacles. Novice level: dogs and handlers practice all three types of side changes and begin to push for speed through course strategy. The handlers start to read their dogs in order to predict an eminent problem so it can be changed into a success. Open level: to prepare the teams for Open competition. Side changes come up faster and the weave pole entry is more angled. More in depth course analysis comes in here. Excellent level: practices skill drills, speed drills, and complicated courses with an emphases on speed and efficiency. |
