The Teacher Education Committee reported that the committee attended a county-level meeting regarding the 100-hours of teacher education. A documented plan must be submitted by June 1 which outlines the plan of education set up by the district to educate teachers in professional development and to motivate them to attend college or some other institute of learning. The district must give teachers the opportunity to gain some of these educational hours during school time. Activities can include speakers during in-service workshops and using the Internet as a provider for staff development. Some hours have to be supplied by the district and other hours are on your own. Teachers will be monitored for attending 20 or so hours every year to determine that progress is being made. If you do not meet the requirements at the end of five years, you will receive a reprimand from the district and then from the Department of Education. The DOE can withhold an increment or censure you. One person will oversee the files of all teachers regarding hours. Pre-approval of courses is required. Our district has no guidelines in place at this time.
A TALC report was received from Fairmount School. School are encouraged to submit their TALC reports so that President Curtis can schedule a meeting with Dr. Montesano before the summer vacation.
