HEA MINUTES
December 19, 2005
The meeting held in the high school library was called to order at 3:35 p.m. by President Fran Borg.
The minutes of the previous month’s meeting were accepted on motion by Vida Story.
TREASURER’S REPORT. Lorelei Kaminsky distributed copies of the Treasurer’s report to the attendees. A motion to accept the report was made by Vida Story and carried by unanimous vote.
CORRESPONDING SECRETARY. Betty Meeks Manning had no report.
RECORDING SECRETARY. Melanie Stagg had no report.
VICE PRESIDENT. Amy Fink requested the TALC reports be returned to her ASAP.
PRESIDENT. Fran Borg announced that a ballot regarding extending the term of officers to two years will be distributed shortly. Fran requested that the building leaders collect the ballots and bring them to the Middle School. Counters are need for the ballots. Faculty Council members and building leaders may not act as counters. There is a need to get one person from each school to do the counting. Michelle Stein has agreed to be the Election Committee Chairperson. Eileen Hooper was elected as the high school building representative but there are other vacancies to be filled for the high school.
The association will work with the Board of Education to get registered domestic partner’s health coverage.
Fran stressed the need to continue to encourage paraeducators to join the HEA. There are approximately 20 paraeducators who are not presently members.
Betty Meeks Manning will send a Benefits review Task message regarding pensions from the Department of the Treasury/Division of Pensions and Benefits. Check your email messages for this information.
The Blue and Gold Scholarship annual beefsteak dinner will be held on February 4, 2006, with a lowered ticket price.
SCHOOL REPORTS. The school reports were given.
MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE. There was no report.
SOCIAL COMMITTEE. There was no report.
NEGOTIATIONS COMMITTEE. President Fran Borg noted that the negotiations are at an impasse.
LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE. Vida Story stated there will be another writing campaign after January 20, 2006 to the newly elected Governor Corzine after he officially takes office.
OLD BUSINESS. Lorelei Kaminsky announced that Alan Recarte is the new PRIDE Committee Chairperson.
NEW BUSINESS. There was no new business.
ANNOUNCEMENTS. There were no announcements.
ADJOURNMENT. Vida Story motioned that the meeting be adjourned, and the motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 4:10 p.m.
