Faculty Council Meeting

December 18, 2006

 

 

 

The December 18, 2006 HEA Faculty Council meeting in the High School Library was called to order at 3:40 p.m. by President Fran Borg.

 

Vida Story made a motion to accept the November minutes of the Faculty Council meeting.  The motion was carried.

 

OFFICERS’ REPORTS

Treasurer.  Lorelei Kaminsky presented the HEA Trial Balance as of November 30, 2006.  Vida Story made a motion to accept the Treasurer’s Report as presented.  The motion was carried.  Lorelei noted that a deposit was made to the Hasbrouck Heights Hilton Hotel for the September 2007 Opening Day Breakfast.

 

Recording Secretary.  There was no report.

 

Corresponding Secretary.  There was no report.

 

BCEA Representative.  There was no report.

 

Vice President.  Amy Fink reported that the T.A.L.C. report from the High School was received.

 

President.  Fran Borg reminded members that there is a BCEA workshop being offered on Wednesday, January 17, 2007, at the Glenpointe Marriott Hotel in Teaneck.  The cost of the workshop is $15.00 and the topic is The Patriot Act.  The program runs from 4:30-6:30 p.m., with registration beginning at 3:30 p.m. and dinner beginning at 6:30 p.m.    Fran also thanked all those who participated in the recent Trenton rally, noting that the Bill was not voted upon, as was planned.  Current plans are for it to be negotiated upon.  It was noted that the pressure must be kept on the legislators and requests were made to continue to send letters and emails.  There was another call for volunteers to form an Environmental Committee to discuss health- related issues in the workplace.  So far, Maria Catena, Mike DeOrio, and Amy Curry have agreed to be on the Committee.  Fran plans to meet with the Business Administrators and Custodial staff in January.  The Administrative Council meeting was held recently.  Overall, Fran reported it was a successful meeting.    

 

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Membership.  Denise Corso is expecting completed paperwork shortly from one new staff member.  Ken Gubala was nominated and voted in to fill the Faculty Council vacancy for the 5ive/6ix School. 

 

Election.  There was no report.

 

Social.  There was no report.

 

Negotiations.  There was no report.

 

Legislative.  Vida Story reminded members to continue to pressure legislators through letters, postcards, and emails regarding the bills before the State Legislators.

 

Professional Rights and Responsibilities.  There was no report.

 

Teacher Education.  There was no report.

 

T.A.L.C.  Denise Corso will send additional reports to Amy Fink.

 

Professional Rights and Responsibilities.  It was reported by President Borg that there is a possible grievance pending. 

 

SCHOOL REPORTS.  Individual school reports were presented.

 

COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ACTION.  There were none.

 

OLD BUSINESS.   It was reported that there continues to be a shortage of substitute teachers available.

 

NEW BUSINESS.  There was none.

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS.   There were none.

 

ADJOURNMENT.  Vida Story made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 4:25 p.m.  The motion carried.
