HACKENSACK EDUCATION ASSOCIATION
FACULTY COUNCIL MEETING
DECEMBER 17, 2001
The monthly meeting of the HEA Faculty Council was held on Monday, December 17,2001 at the Hackensack Middle School. The meeting was called to order by President Robert Kern Curtis at 3:33 p.m.

The minutes of the November12, 2001 meeting were approved. A motion to accept the minutes was made by Vida Story. The motion passed.

Officers' Report.

Treasurer's Report. Mark Porto.
The treasurer presented the report for November 2001. A motion to accept the report was made by Vida Story. The motion passed.

Corresponding Secretary's Report. Beverly Nelson.
Holiday greeting cards were received from BCEA and NJEA.
NJEA sent a memo concerning the Relief Fund for the Middletown Education Association. Contributions may be sent in the form of a check or money order.

Recording Secretary's Report. Betty Meeks-Manning. No report.

BCEA Report. Elaine Williamson.
World Trade Fund (WTF). $50,000 has been deposited in a special fund for disbursement to families of the World Trade disaster.
Elections. BCEA expressed appreciation to all members who were volunteers during the elections.
Donations. Donations for the Middletown Education Association can be sent to BCEA. NJEA is accepting donations for the 'Buy a Brick' campaign for the new NJEA building.
Workshops. BCEA is sponsoring two workshops, 'The Right to Know' and 'Good Ideas'.
Insurance. The Washington National Insurance Company is now called Conseco Insurance. NJEA is urging members to change to Prudential Insurance Company for short-term policies and to continue with Washington National for long-term policies.

Vice President's Report. Georgiana Brown. No report.

President's Report. Dr. Robert Kern Curtis. The President's report was included in the various committee reports.

School Reports

Fairmount. There continues to be a problem with parking on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Hillers. The parking situation is more acute, now. A number of parking tickets have been issued.

Jackson Avenue. No report.

Parker. There is a concern about parents parking in the school parking lot.

5ive6ix School. No report.

Middle School. Air quality is a major concern. There is a concern about the increase in workload when scoring the GEPA test, which is scheduled for January. Scoring of the test should not be done during planning periods. The contract specifies that the planning period should be duty free.

High School. The TALC meeting has been postponed and will be rescheduled as soon as possible.

Committee Reports.

Membership Committee. Susan Young. No report.

Election Committee. Denise Corso.
President Curtis presented the report .The 5ive-6ix School is in need of a teachers' assistant representative.

Social Committee. Maria Materia.
President Curtis presented the report. The date for the meeting/workshop with Evan Goldman has not been set.

Negotiations Committee. Lynn Berhalter. No report.

Legislative Committee. Vida Story.
The chairperson encourages all members to support the N55 Bill.

Professional Rights and Responsibilities. Dr. Robert Kern Curtis.
President Curtis reported that the Association has been busy, during the month, with various problems and potential grievances.

Teacher Education Committee. Nikki VanEss. No report.

T.A.L.C. Georgiana Brown. No report.

Old Business. There was a discussion concerning the lack of and the quality of substitutes.

New Business. There was a discussion concerning the attendance issue at the high school.

With no further discussion, the meeting was adjourned at 4:15 p.m.
