HACKENSACK EDUCATION ASSOCIATION

Faculty Council Meeting

November 21, 2005

The November 21, 2005 HEA Faculty Council Meeting in the High School Library was called to order 3:38 p.m. by President Fran Borg.

A motion to accept the minutes of the previous Faculty Council Meeting was presented by Vida Story and carried.

Negotiations Committee.  Lou Ferrante spoke about the progress of contract negotiations.  A joint filing for impasse took place by the Board of Education and the Association.  Hopefully, there will be a mediator session by the end of January, which will help both sides come to an accord.

President.  Fran Borg noted that Miriam Chacon was acknowledged by the BCEA as the Educational Support Person of the Year.  We now have 68 para educators in our system. Fran will send a copy of the nomination form to each school to be used for next year’s nominating process.  There are two Faculty Council openings, one from 5ive6ix and one from the High School.  Alan Recarte was named to be the PRIDE chairperson.  An HEA banner will be made which will be displayed at various functions.  The Opening Day

Luncheon will be held next September at the Hilton, Hasbrouck

Heights.  The luncheon will run from 12:30-2:30 p.m.  The HEA office will be moved from the High School to the Middle School.

There is a need for an Election Chairperson. The Chairperson cannot be a Faculty Council member. The responsibilities of the Election Chairperson are to make up ballots, send and collect the ballots, and get one person from each school to count the ballots. Please submit names to Fran Borg. After Thanksgiving a ballot will be sent to all members requesting a vote for an amendment for elections to be held once every two years instead of every year.
