Faculty Council Meeting

 

November 17, 2003

 

 

The November 17, 2003 HEA Faculty Council Meeting was called to order in the High School Library at 3:35 p.m. by President Robert Curtis.

 

A motion to accept the October 27, 2003 corrected minutes was made by Vida Story and approved.

 

OFFICER’S REPORTS

 

Treasurer.  The Treasurer presented the report.  A motion to accept the report was made by Vida Story and approved.

 

Corresponding Secretary.  The Corresponding Secretary requested that the mailing folders be returned to her.

 

Recording Secretary.  The Recording Secretary had no report.

 

BCEA Representative.  The BCEA representative was not present; there was no report.

 

Vice President.  The Vice President received a TALC report from Fairmount School; she requested TALC reports be sent as soon as the twice-yearly meetings are held. 

 

President.  Fliers from AFLAC and Liberty Home Mortgage were distributed.  A letter was received from the Board regarding the grievance of individual teacher planning time.  A letter was received from Fairmount School regarding rest room and planning time grievances.  President Curtis met with Dr. Montesano.  The HEA officers attended the NJEA convention.

 

SCHOOL REPORTS

 

Reports were made by each school in the district.

 

COMMITTEE REPORTS

 

Membership.  The Membership chair is sending applications as new faculty members are elected by the Board.

 

Election.  Faculty Council representatives were nominated and elected for Parker School – Dennis Mamatz and Tanisha Williams.  Joanne Grieco was reappointed as Faculty Council representative from Fairmount.

 

Social.  Maria Matera was thanked for the convention arrangements; she is now working on the Honors Dinner.

 

Negotiations.  The next Negotiations meeting will be held on December 3.

 

Legislative.  The Legislative Chair reported that the endorsed candidates won in 39 out of 40 districts.

 

Professional Rights and Responsibilities.  This was included with the President's report.

 

Teacher Education.  Refunds will be sent to those who were closed out of courses.  Lisa Bernardo will be the new committee chair.

 

T.A.L.C.  TALC meetings were encouraged to be scheduled and held.

 

COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ACTION.  There were no recommendations.

 

OLD BUSINESS.  There continues to be problems with a lack of substitutes for teachers and teacher assistants.

 

NEW BUSINESS.  Concern was expressed about student stress as was reported in a recent article in The Record.  Teacher stress is a concern as well.

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS.  There were no announcements.

 

ADJOURNMENT.  With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 4:19 p.m. on motion by Vida Story.
