FACULTY COUNCIL MEETING
OCTOBER 23, 2000
The monthly meeting of the HEA Faculty Council was held on Monday, October 23, 2000 at the Hackensack Middle School. The meeting was called to order by President Robert Kern Curtis at 2:28 p.m.
The minutes of the September 18, 2000 meeting were approved with corrections.
A motion to accept the minutes was made by Vida Story. The motion passed.
Treasurer’s Report. The treasurer was absent. President Curtis distributed the budget report. A motion to accept the report was made by Vida Story. The motion passed.
Corresponding Secretary’s Report. The corresponding secretary reported that a letter from Dennis Testa was sent to HEA, on behalf of the Edgewater fire victims, requesting that donations be sent to help families of the students in Edgewater Public Schools. The Edgewater Education Association is asking that donations be sent to the Edgewater Good Neighbors Fund: Fire Victims.
A letter was received from BCEA concerning nominations for the Educational Support Professional of the Year Award. Since the deadline had passed, there was no discussion.
BCEA Report Alma Cook-Dash reported that BCEA mailed Convention badges to members and sent fliers concerning bus transportation to the Convention to the Association.
The Atlantic City Rescue Mission is requesting that all persons attending the Convention donate toiletry items to Atlantic City shelters.
BCEA is investigating other insurance companies to replace Washington National. Insurance.
NJEA is demolishing the old NJEA building in Trenton.
Vice President’s Report. No report.
President’s Report. The President answered questions concerning the length of the workday.
Membership Committee. The Chair reported that 41 applications were sent to new teachers. Eight have not been returned.
Election Committee. President Curtis presented the report. Shannon Cox and Denise Corso were appointed by President Curtis to serve as Co-chairs of the Election Committee.
Dan King was nominated and elected Building Representative for the high school.

Social Committee. No report.
Negotiations Committee. The Chair reported that there will be a meeting with the Board of Education on Monday, November 27, 2000. The mediator will be present.
Legislative Committee. The Chair reported that volunteers are needed to man telephones for the November elections.
Professional Rights and Responsibilities Committee. No report.
Teacher Education. No report.
TALC. President Curtis presented the report. TALC has a right to two meetings per year with school administrators. Meetings should be held in the fall and spring. The committee should be composed of at least one teacher for every thirty-five teachers on staff. (See Article 11 of the Contract for details.)
Old Business. There was no old business.
New Business. A member of the Association has suggested that Hackensack teachers have car stickers. The stickers should have a symbol denoting that the owner of the car is a Hackensack teacher.
The parking problem at Hillers School was discussed. Parking tickets have been issued to some members. President Curtis will investigate the problem.
Lynn Berhalter has new member videos. They were distributed to the Building Representatives of Jackson Avenue and Fairmount Avenue Schools. The videos will be available to others when they are returned to Ms. Berhalter.
With no further business. The meeting was adjourned at 4:16 p.m.
