The workday ends at 3:05 p.m. Meetings after 3:05 p.m. are voluntary and not in accordance with the contractual agreement. The Contract does not indicate a specific day of the week for meetings with administrators. There should be no retaliations, if a teacher can not attend or remain in a meeting after school hours.

Social Committee. The Social Committee Chair reported that the Opening Day Luncheon at The Restaurant was a success. The Chairperson discussed the concerns of the membership in regards to the size of The Restaurant, the staggered seating arrangement, and the lack of ability to socialize with other members. She reported that other sites had been researched and had proven to be too costly for us. While The Restaurant is limited in size, it is suitable in cost for the Association. Suggestions for an alternative site will be accepted. June Porto commented that The Restaurant gives members a feeling of respect and elegance. The Restaurant has featured the members of the Association on a Website that can be accessed through www.hackensackhigh.org.

482 luncheon postcards were mailed to the membership. 413 members responded. 341 attended the Opening Day Luncheon.

The Chair reported that she received notes from Marion Richer and Madge Wolfe thanking the Association for the Honors Dinner.

Negotiation Committee. The Negotiation Committee has not met with the mediator. The mediator was not available due to death in her family. Two issues of concern are salary and after school meetings (length of workday).

Legislative Committee. The Legislative Committee Chair attended the NEA Conventions. The Al Gore team was present. Eighty-nine percent (89%) of the participants voted to endorse Al Gore. Members are encouraged to vote in the oncoming election.

Professional Rights and Responsibilities Committee. President Curtis presented the report for the Professional Rights and Responsibilities Committee. The 100 hours of teacher education does not have to be included in the PIP, this school year. New teachers working with a provisional certificate (including alternate route and traditionally trained teachers) may not accrue 100 hours until they receive their permanent teaching license.

Inservice Representative, June Porto, is asking for members interested in teaching Inservice courses to contact her as soon as possible. Teachers who teach a course may earn two (2) credits for each ten (10) hours of instruction in lieu of fee payment.

TALC. President Curtis encouraged TALC committees to get organized for the school year and to arrange TALC meetings with building administrators.

Old Business. There was no old business.

New Business. There was no new business.
