The monthly meeting of the HEA Faculty Council was held on Monday,
September 17, 2001 at the Hackensack Middle School. The meeting
was called to order by President Robert Kern Curtis at 3:30 p.m.
The minutes of the June, 2001 meeting were approved. A motion to accept the minutes was made by Vida Story. The motion passed.
Officers' Report
Treasurer's Report. Treasurer, Mark Porto, presented the budget report.
A motion to accept the report was made by Vida Story. The motion passed.
Corresponding Secretary's Report. The secretary, Beverly Nelson,
received a letter from Doris Brown thanking the HEA for the retirement
dinner and the gift.
A letter was received from BCEA concerning the appointment of a BCEA representative.
BCEA Report. No report.
Vice President's Report. No report.
President's Report. President Curtis answered questions
concerning the interpretation of the contract as it relates to personal
leave before a recess period.
Dr. Curtis discussed the parking problem at Hillers School
with Dr. Montesano.
HEA was not consulted about the changes in the teachers' room at the Middle School.
School Reports
Fairmount. There is a new principal, Joseph Boyle.
Hillers. New carpeting was installed in the library and the kindergarten rooms.
The building is in disarray. Materials are stacked in hallways.
There is a concern about the lack of organization with the
Inclusion Program.
Jackson Avenue. There is a need for new furniture in the teachers' room. Dr. Curtis will submit a list of items needed to Dr. Montesano.
Parker School. The school received new rugs and carpeting.
Middle School. There is a concern about the condition of the science rooms.
There was a discussion concerning the two nights scheduled for Back to School Night.
There is a concern about the procedure involved when there is a bomb scare.
5ive-6ix School. There is a concern about the lack of mailboxes
for teachers.
High School. The Emergency Evacuation Plan is a concern.
Committee Reports.
Elections Committee. President Curtis presented the report. Barbara Mattei was nominated and elected building representative for Parker School.
One teacher and one teacher assistant building representative are needed for the
5ive-6ix School.
The Middle School is in need of one additional representative.
Membership Committee. The Membership Chair, Susan Young, was absent.
President Curtis presented the report. Seven new teachers have not
returned applications for membership. The Chairperson mailed applications
during the summer. Building leaders are asked to contact the Chair to obtain
additional applications.
Social Committee Report. President Curtis reported that anyone interested in room accommodations for the Teachers' Convention should contact BCEA or NJEA directly.
Legislative Committee. Chairperson, Vida Story, presented the report.
The Chair asked members to remind family and friends to
vote in the upcoming elections.
Professional Rights and Responsibilities Committee. The report
was included in the President's report.
Teacher Education Committee. President Curtis presented the report. Send suggestions for course ideas to Dr. Curtis.
