Faculty Council Meeting
September 15, 2003
The September 15, 2003 HEA Faculty Council Meeting was called to order in the High School Library at 3:30 p.m. by President Robert Curtis.
A motion to accept the June 16, 2003 minutes was made by Vida Story and approved.
OFFICER’S REPORTS
Treasurer. The Treasurer’s Report was presented. A motion to accept the report was made by Vida Story and approved.
Corresponding Secretary. The Corresponding Secretary had no report.
Recording Secretary. The Recording Secretary had no report.
BCEA Representative. Elaine Williamson is our BCEA representative. Although she is assigned to work in private schools this year, she has a school-system mailbox at the Middle School. The BCEA representative reported that the BCEA has endorsed the Democratic party in Districts 36, 37, and 38 for the November election; two Boards of Education have accepted the early retirement plan; attendance at the November 6 and 7 NJEA convention is encouraged--professional hours are earned; the voucher bill for the District of Columbia was passed by one vote in Washington; all information is to be factual in completing the highly quialifed teacher form; workshops will be held

at the Hasbrouck Heights Hilton on October 24, 25, and 29; contributions are requested for this year's selected charity, the Trenton's Women Shelter--items can be brought to the November convention.
Vice President. The Vice President has been speaking to new faculty members, encouraging them to join the HEA.
President. The President reported that he and Dr. Montesano worked out a tentative agreement regarding the the planning time grievance. The Middle School's Teacher's Room cannot be changed without a negotiated agreement. Rules have changed at Fairmount School regarding the use of the restrooms; the rules are more restrictive and have to be negotiated. The President was pleased with the Opening Day Luncheon. The Monday, December 1, 2003 early dismissal day will be clarified. The President will research the legality (in the light of new legislation regarding contract negotiations) of the Board's freezing teachers' salaries. There is a meeting on September 17 with the NJEA representative and on September 29 with the Board regarding contract negotiations.
SCHOOL REPORTS
Reports were made by each school in the district.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Membership. Building leaders were sent a list of names of new teachers who have not returned their HEA application forms.
Election. Lynrick Rhymer was selected building leader at the Middle School; an additional Faculty Council member is needed from the Middle School and one from Parker School..
Social. Maria Matera was thanked for arranging the Opening Day luncheon.
Negotiations. There will be a meeting on September 17 with the NJEA representative and a meeting on September 29 with the Board.

Legislative. Contracting bills have been signed by the Governor.
Professional Rights and Responsibilities. This was included with the President's report.
Teacher Education. Mark Porto is the chair for this committee. Fliers were distributed regarding course offerings.
T.A.L.C. There were no reports.
COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ACTION. There were no recommendations.
OLD BUSINESS. There was no old business.
NEW BUSINESS. There was no new business.
ANNOUNCEMENTS. There were no announcements.
ADJOURNMENT. With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 4:30 p.m. on motion by Vida Story.
