Faculty Council Meeting

June 19, 2006

 

 

 

The June 19, 2006 HEA Faculty Council meeting in the High School Library was called to order at 3:35 p.m. by President Fran Borg.

 

Vida Story made a motion to accept the minutes of the May 15 Faculty Council meeting.  the motion was carried.

 

OFFICERS’ REPORTS

Treasurer.  Lorelei Kaminsky presented the HEA Trial Balance as of May 31, 2006.  Vida Story made a motion to accept the Treasurer’s Report as presented.  The motion was carried.

 

Recording Secretary.  There was no report.

 

Corresponding Secretary.  Eileen Hooper reported she received several thank you notes from honorees for the HEA Dinner.

 

BCEA Representative.  Elaine Williamson reported that will be an increase in dues.  She also reiterated that it is imperative for the budget to get passed over the summer.

 

Vice President.  Amy Fink reported that all the T.A.L.C. reports have been turned in.  President Fran Borg will be meeting with Dr. Montesano on June 20, 2006 to discuss any unresolved issues.

 

President.  Fran Borg announced that we have a contract.  There will be an HEA meeting on Wednesday, June 21, at 3:30 p.m. in the High School auditorium.  Each building leader will be given enough ballots for the voting members.  The deadline for the vote is 3 p.m. on Monday, June 26.  All ballots must be returned to the High School by the morning of Tuesday, June 27.  Vice President Amy Fink distributed a flyer to each building leader regarding the meeting.  Fran Borg distributed flyers to each building leader for the purpose of nominations for the NJEA Friend of ESP Award 2007.  Individual school meetings will be scheduled throughout the 2006-07 school year beginning with Hillers on Monday, October 23, to be held at The Steakhouse (formerly Sizzlin’ Steak) on Passaic Street.  The meeting is scheduled to run from 3:30-5:00 p.m.  The individual school meetings will be held in addition to the Faculty Council meetings.  There

are Faculty Council vacancies from Parker and the Middle School.

 

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Membership.  Denise Corso made suggestions for keeping in touch with new members.  Denise will meet with each building leader for the purpose of updating the membership lists.

 

Elections.  There was no report.

 

Social.  Maria Matera received several thank you notes from honorees for the HEA Honors Dinner.  Maria reminded the members to check their emails over the summer for notices of the September Opening Day Luncheon that will be held in the Hasbrouck Heights Hilton Hotel.  It was noted that the Luncheon is not for student teachers or visitors.

 

Negotiations.  President Fran Borg reminded the representatives to encourage the members from each building to attend the information meeting that will be held at the High School Auditorium on Wednesday, June 21, at 3:30 p.m. 

 

Legislative.  Vida Story encouraged members to make phone calls, send emails, and write letters to Senators and Congressional representatives regarding pensions and health benefits for teachers.  Vigilance is especially needed during the summer to keep tabs on what is going on in Trenton regarding these issues.

 

COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ACTION.  There were none.

 

OLD BUSINESS.  There was none.

 

NEW BUSINESS.  Elaine Williamson and Brianna Perry were voted in to fill the Faculty Council vacancies for the Middle School.

 

SCHOOL REPORTS.  Individual school reports were presented.

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS.   There were none.

 

ADJOURNMENT.  Vida Story made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 4:10 p.m.  The motion carried.
