Faculty Council Meeting

June 18, 2007

The June 18, 2007 HEA Faculty Council meeting in the High School Media Center was called to order at 3:32 p.m. by President Fran Borg.

A motion to accept the minutes from the previous month's Faculty Council Meeting was made by Vida Story and approved.

OFFICER’S REPORTS

Treasurer.  Copies of the May 31, 2007 Trial Balance were distributed to members.  A motion to accept the Treasurer's report as presented was made by Vida Story and approved.

Corresponding Secretary.  Eileen Hooper noted that notes of thanks regarding the Honors Dinner were received from Natalie Cammarato, Ed Church, Shirley Pomales, Rosemary Poppe, and Ann Saccaro.

Recording Secretary.  Melanie Stagg was not present.

BCEA Representative.  Elaine Williamson was not present.  Fran Borg spoke about the "meet the Legislators" BCEA meeting. Fran will attempt to attend the meeting to question the Legislators about their positions on education.

Vice President.  Amy Fink was not present.

President.  Fran Borg announced beginning September 2007 every school should have a mandatory monthly HEA building leader meeting. It was suggested that a review of the dress code be made at the initial meeting. It was noted that violation of the dress code would result in the following consequences:  1st offense—verbal reprimand from the supervisor or principal; 2nd offense—write up; 3rd offense—write up into jacket for appropriate measures.  If anyone feels "targeted," take a picture document and file a grievance.

In October there will be one general meeting to be held at the High School for all HEA members.

Fran stressed the need to review all items on the contract renewals:  Columns, Grade (teachers are Grade 5), and Step. Non-tenured staff on contract for maternity leaves, etc. cannot count the time towards tenure except after being hired to take an open position.

A grievance was heard and posting rescinded.  Review new postings for requirements.

It is important to keep copies of all certifications, PD certificates, transcripts, etc.
