The monthly meeting of the HEA Faculty Council was held on Monday, June 12, 2000, at the Hackensack Middle School. The meeting was called to order by President Robert Kern Curtis at 3:30 p.m.
The minutes of the May 15, 2000 meeting were approved. A motion to accept the minutes was made by Vida Story.
The Treasurer presented the report for May. The Honors Dinner was within
the budget. The additional costs were covered by the price of the tickets.
Christopher Ryan was commended for his role as Master of Ceremony.
A motion to accept the Treasurer’s report was made by Vida Story. The motion passed.
The Corresponding Secretary reported that she received notes from Carol Fishburg, Marsha Geise, and Heidi Vaccarella thanking the Association for the dinner and the gift.
BCEA Report. No report.
The Vice President’s Report. No report.
The President’s Report. The President reported that he received complaints from the members of one of the elementary schools that TALC has not met, in that school, since 1998. President Curtis stated that TALC meetings are very important and that each committee should meet with its administrator and submit the report to Vice President Georgiana Brown.
Next year’s Honors Dinner will be held on Thursday, June 14, 2001, at Seasons.
Membership Committee. The Chair reported that membership applications were sent to two new teachers. There has been no response, yet.
Election Committee. No report.
Social Committee. The Chair reported that the Opening Day Luncheon will be held at The Restaurant. Reponse postcards will be sent to members in the opening day letter from Dr. Montesano’s office.
Negotiation Committee. The Chair reported that an impasse has been reached. The committee is waiting for the appointment of a mediator. The problem relates to the issues of money and after school work hours.
Legislative Committee. The Chair reported that the State Assembly passed the bill for the funding of the building of schools. The Senate has not acted on the bill.
Professional Rights and Responsibilities Committee. No report.
Teacher Education Committee. Parker School Building Representative, Margarita Monserrat, presented the report. There are two proposals for new courses. Feedback for courses and course approval has been positive. A note should be sent to Chairperson June Porto for new course suggestions. Courses submitted toward the 100 hours of teacher education should be listed in the Professional Improvement Plan (PIP) and agreed upon with the administrator. Changes can be made to the PIP, if there are any adjustments. An additional page will be added to the End of the Year Evaluation Form in order to keep track of courses that have been taken.
Old Business. There was no old business.
New Business.
President Clinton will acknowledge Beverly Nelson on Monday, June 19, 2000, for her outstanding achievement as a mathematics/science teacher. It was suggested that Mrs. Nelson be given public acknowledgement by the Hackensack School System.
Announcements. Patricia Wright-Perry thanked the Association for honoring her.
