Faculty Council Meeting

 

May 19, 2003

 

 

The May 19, 2003 HEA Faculty Council Meeting was called to order in the Middle School Faculty Dining Room at 3:31 p.m.     by President Robert Curtis.

 

A motion to accept the April 28, 2003 minutes was made by Vida Story and approved.

 

OFFICER’S REPORTS

 

Treasurer.  The Treasurer’s Report was presented.  A motion to accept the report was made by Vida Story and approved.  The 2003-04 annual budget was presented.  A motion to accept the budget was made by Fran Muller and approved.

 

Corresponding Secretary.  The Corresponding Secretary read two thank you notes from HEA honorees.

 

Recording Secretary.  The Recording Secretary had no report.

 

BCEA Representative.  The BCEA representative reported that Edie Fulton was elected NJEA President.  Members were encouraged to vote in the yearly elections and not to throw their ballots away.

 

Vice President.  As the Vice President was not present, there was no report.

 

President.  President Curtis will send information to each school regarding the Summer Leadership Workshop to be held in August.  Information was distributed regarding a Fairness

Rally in Trenton on May 31.  Many guests at the Honors Dinner complained to Dr. Curtis about the rude behavior during the speeches.  One grievance has moved on to the Board level.  Non-rehire letters were sent out by the Superintendent.  Frances Borg was appointed Parliamentarian replacing Beverly Nelson.

 

SCHOOL REPORTS

 

Reports were made by each school in the district.

 

COMMITTEE REPORTS

 

Membership.  New-hire membership applications are being distributed and returned.

 

Election.  Faculty Council representatives are still needed at the 5ive6ix and Fairmount Schools.

 

Social.  Maria Matera was thanked for the successful Honors Dinner.  Plans are being made for the Opening Day luncheon.

 

Negotiations.  There has been no communication from the Board.

 

Legislative.  Members who had disability coverage from Washington National and return from a leave must apply for new coverage.

 

Professional Rights and Responsibilities.  This was included with the President’s report.

 

Teacher Education.  A new chair is needed.  Contact Dr. Curtis if interested.

 

T.A.L.C.  The second TALC meeting should be scheduled for all schools.

 

COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ACTION.  There were no recommendations.

OLD BUSINESS.  Additional Perks Cards are available if needed.

 

NEW BUSINESS.  Parking and a lack of substitutes continues to be a problem.  Members stated they do not care for the split dining sessions at the Opening Day lunch.  Application forms for PAC payroll deductions were distributed.  The June 16, 2003 Faculty Council meeting will be held in the High School Library. 

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS.  There were no announcements.

 

ADJOURNMENT.  With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 4:25 p.m. on motion by Vida Story.
