OFFICER’S REPORTS

Corresponding Secretary.  Betty Meeks Manning distributed HEA T-shirt flyers to the building representatives, requesting they be posted at the individual schools.

Recording Secretary.  The recording secretary had no report.

BCEA Representative.  Elaine Williamson reported that she was elected Delegate Assembly.  She will be representing us at the National Convention for Minority Concerns.

President.  Fran Borg noted there is a “Have Breakfast with Rothman” scheduled for May 22 from 10 a.m. to noon.  This event is open to all for the purpose of discussing concerns with Steve Rothman.  It will be held at 210 West Englewood Avenue in Teaneck, NJ.  Copies of the schedule of the Board of Education meetings were distributed.  Fran stressed the need for representation at these meetings.  Faculty reps were requested to commit to attending at least one of the meetings.  The HEA Faculty Council web page has been updated.  Names of building leaders need to be given to Fran by the next meeting.  Gold Star directories were distributed.  Maria Catena volunteered to take over the HEA T-shirt orders.  It was noted that it takes approximately six weeks to receive the shirts once an order is placed.  HEA has been approached about getting involved in the after-school CASA program.  Further discussions will be held at the next meeting.  A proposal to collect donations for athletic or Blue and Gold scholarship funds in the name of the late high school Principal, Joseph DeFalco, was brought up. Discussions will continue at the June meeting.  To distribute any materials to members, building leaders should contact Amy Fink via email, inter-school mail, or telephone.  More information will be forthcoming regarding the Schoolmasters camping trip, which will be held on Friday, June 3, through Sunday, June 5.  Members are encouraged to attend Summer Leadership Workshops.

School Reports.  Individual school reports were discussed.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Membership.  President Fran Borg noted the need for a committee chairperson.  Fran requested nominations be presented to her at the June meeting.

Social.  Maria Matera sent out reservation confirmations to 247 people for the HEA Honors Dinner.  Maria reported the need to refine the building contact situation regarding the distribution of flyers and the need for a back-up plan when building leaders are ill and not at work.

Legislative.  Vida Story stressed the need for continued vigilance regarding opposition to the combined bills A-5269 and ACR25.  Vida noted that the letter-writing campaign needs to continue and suggested members keep track of the issues over the summer through the NJEA website.

OLD BUSINESS.  There was no old business.

NEW BUSINESS.  President Fran Borg proposed changing our constitution and, for the sake of continuity, stipulating the President and Faculty Council positions should be for a period of two years, with a limit of two terms as President.
