Faculty Council Meeting

 

April 28, 2003

 

 

The April 28, 2003 HEA Faculty Council Meeting was called to order in the Middle School Faculty Dining Room at 3:35 p.m.      by President Robert Curtis.

 

A motion to accept the March 24, 2003 minutes was made by Vida Story and approved.

 

OFFICER’S REPORTS

 

Treasurer.  The Treasurer’s Report was presented.  A motion to accept the report was made by Vida Story and approved.

 

Corresponding Secretary.  The Corresponding Secretary had no report.

 

Recording Secretary.  The Recording Secretary described the letter-writing campaign held at the high school to endorse passage of Senate Bill S1967 and Assembly Bill A2785 protecting health benefits.  Samples of this information will be sent to the other district schools.

 

BCEA Representative.  As the BCEA representative was not present, there was no report.

 

Vice President.  The Vice President stated one TALC report was submitted.

President.  The President stated there are two teacher issues, one regarding a professional day and one regarding planning periods.

 

SCHOOL REPORTS

 

Reports were made by each school in the district.

 

COMMITTEE REPORTS

 

Membership.  The Membership Chair reported one newly-hired teacher will receive application forms.

 

Election.  President Curtis reported the election results.  One faculty council position is open in Fairmount School and in the 5ive6ix School.  Lisa Bernardo was nominated as High School faculty council representative and was duly elected.  Suggestions were offered for more successful future elections.

 

Social.  Plans are progressing for the Honors Dinner.

 

Negotiations.  Proposals were exchanged between the Board and HEA on March 25.  No date has been set for the first meeting.

 

Legislative.  The Legislative Chair thanked those who made telephone calls for the April 15 school board elections; the Hackensack budget passed.

 

Professional Rights and Responsibilities.  This areas was covered with the President’s report.

 

Teacher Education.  No report was given.

 

T.A.L.C.  This area was covered in the Vice President’s report.

 

COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ACTION.  There were no recommendations.

OLD BUSINESS.  There is still a lack of adequate substitutes for teachers and teacher assistants.

 

NEW BUSINESS.  There was no new business.

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS.  There were no announcements.

 

ADJOURNMENT.  With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 4:10 p.m. on motion by Vida Story.
