Faculty Council Meeting

April 14, 2008

 

 

The April 14, 2008 HEA Faculty Council meeting in the High School Library was called to order at 3:35 p.m. by President Fran Borg.

 

Vida Story made a motion to accept the minutes of the previous Faculty Council meeting.  The motion was carried.

 

OFFICER’S REPORTS

Treasurer.  Lorelei Kaminsky distributed copies of the March 31, 2008 HEA Trial Balance.  Vida Story made a motion to accept the Treasurer’s Report.  The motion was carried.

 

Corresponding Secretary.  All the snow lists have been received except for one from Parker School.   NJEA summer workshop information was distributed to all schools.

 

Recording Secretary.  The recording secretary was not present.

 

BCEA Representative.  Call the BCEA office for reservations for the May 29-30 overnight workshop by minority leadership and recruitment.  Six professional development hours are available for attendees.    Dr. Marina Vega will be the speaker. 

 

Vice President.  T.A.L.C. reports are out.

 

President.  Members were urged to vote on the school budget.  Ingrid Davis Duncan has submitted her resignation.  Other schools were "light" regarding nominees for HEA representatives.  After the voting period, representatives can be appointed.

 

School Reports. Individual school reports were discussed.

 

 

COMMITTEE REPORTS

 

Membership.  There was a discussion on the confusion over the new rules that caused member roles to be dropped when they were out on maternity leaves, etc., but were never brought back on when they returned.  This included confusion with paraprofessionals as well.  

 

Election.  Elections are currently in progress.

 

Social.  Maria Matera reported the names of the HEA Dinner honorees.

 

Legislative.  Members were encouraged to make phone calls to remind people to vote on April 15.

 

Teacher Education.  There are currently two nominees for this committee.  A chairperson is also needed.

 

COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ACTION.  There was no report.

 

OLD BUSINESS.  There was no old business.

 

NEW BUSINESS.  Lorelei Kaminsky distributed Dress Barn discount coupons.  Ron Durso discussed the May 3 Hackensack River Keeper Kayak Adventure.  Professional development hours will be offered for attendees.  The State Education Benefits Plan is being challenged due to differences and undeclared changes that appear to be causing member concerns.  A meeting to address these concerns is scheduled for April 30 (4:30-6:30 p.m.) to be held at the Glenpointe in Teaneck.

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS.  Fran Borg reminded members to submit the information on the hours spent on lesson planning to her.

 

ADJOURNMENT.  With no further business, Vida Story made a motion at 4:33 p.m. to adjourn the meeting.  The motion was carried.
