Faculty Council Meeting

March 24, 2008

 

 

The March 24, 2008 HEA Faculty Council meeting in the High School Library was called to order at 3:40 p.m. by President Fran Borg.

 

Vida Story made a motion to accept the minutes of the previous Faculty Council meeting.  The motion was carried.

 

OFFICER’S REPORTS

Treasurer.  Lorelei Kaminsky distributed copies of the current HEA Trial Balance as of February 29, 2008..  Vida Story made a motion to accept the Treasurer’s Report.  The motion was carried.

 

Corresponding Secretary.  Eileen Hooper distributed the tickets to those who signed up for the Legislative Dinner.  Faimount  Avenue School emails have been received, but Eileen is waiting for the others.

 

Recording Secretary.  There was no report.

 

BCEA Representative.  Betty Meeks Manning reported that health care issues, particularly regarding the network of available doctors, continue to be discussed with Governor Corzine.  The Paid Family Leave bill (S786) has stalled.  Though it passed the Senate on March 3, it must go back there for another vote because of technicalities.  Nominations are being accepted for a Human Rights Award.  The nominee need not be an educator but any person who positively affects the school district or the community.

 

Vice President.  There was no report.

 

President.  Fran Borg reminded members to see the school nurse to file an official report if there is an on-the-job injury.  Such a notification made to the nurse or an administrator counts as an official report, whether it was written or not.

 

School Reports. Individual school reports were discussed.

 

COMMITTEE REPORTS

 

Negotiations.  Lou Ferrante had a meeting with Dr. Montesano and Mr. Seery regarding the cost of salaries to the district.  There is another committee meeting scheduled.

 

Membership.  Denise Corso suggested that building leaders might personally deliver membership forms to those who have not yet joined.   

 

Election.  Amy Fink announced that nominating forms for new officers and council members have been distributed, and nominees have been notified.  Lisa Bernardo is in the process of receiving the acceptances.  Please urge members to be willing to serve in those capacities.

 

Social.  Lorelei Kaminsky announced there are thirteen retirees and three twenty-five years of service honorees for the HEA Honors Dinner.

 

Legislative.  Vida Story reminded members that volunteers are needed to make "get-out-the-vote" phone calls on election day.

 

Professional Rights and Responsibilities.  There was no report.

 

Teacher Education.  Fran Borg announced that two classes, one on Cooperative Learning and the other on Communicating with Spanish-speaking parents, being offered.

 

T.A.L.C.  There was no report.

 

COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ACTION.  There was no report.

 

OLD BUSINESS.  There was no old business.

 

NEW BUSINESS.  There was no new business.

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS.  Fran Borg reminded members to submit the information on the hours spent on lesson planning to her.

 

ADJOURNMENT.  With no further business, Vida Story made a motion at 4:30 p.m. to adjourn the meeting.  The motion was carried.
