Faculty Council Meeting

February 28, 2007

 

 

The February 28, 2007 HEA Faculty Council meeting in the High School Media Center was called to order at 3:35 p.m. by President Fran Borg.

 

A motion to accept the minutes from the previous month's Faculty Council Meeting was made by Vida Story and approved.

 

OFFICER’S REPORTS

 

Treasurer.  Lorelei Kaminsky presented the Trial Balance as of January 31, 2007.  Some dues were not posted on the Trial Balance and a revised Trial Balance report will be presented at the next meeting.  Vida Story made a motion to accept the Trial Balance as presented and it was approved.

    

Corresponding Secretary.  Eileen Hooper presented a memo of the Governor's proposed changes to pensions and benefits.  A copy was given to each school and can also be found on the NJEA website. 

 

Recording Secretary.  There was no report.

 

BCEA Representative.  President Fran Borg noted that Carol Otis, a former Hackensack teacher, is running for 2nd Vice President and has requested HEA support.

 

Vice President.  Amy Fink had no report but it was noted that the Middle School has had a T.A.L.C. meeting.

 

President.  Fran Borg reminded members that it is not permitted to use sick and personal days to add on additional time off to school vacation weeks. Under those circumstances, the absences can be questioned and pay can be docked.   

 

It was noted that the National Coalition of 100 Black Women honored Lillian Whittaker and Angela Martin as trailblazers and role models.

 

COMMITTEE REPORTS

 

Membership. There was no report.

 

Election.  There was no report.   

 

Social.  There was no report.

 

Negotiations.  There was no report.

 

Legislative.  Vida Story will be attending an important meeting on March 6, 2007.  Vida reminded members that school elections are coming up.

 

Professional Rights and Responsibilities.  There was no report.

 

Teacher Education.  Diane Menditto's course is full and will begin next week.

 

T.A.L.C.  There was no report.

 

School Reports.  Individual school reports were discussed.

 

COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ACTION.  There was no report.

 

OLD BUSINESS.  There was no old business.

 

NEW BUSINESS.  There was no new business.

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS.  There were no announcements.

 

ADJOURNMENT.  On motion by Vida Story, with no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 4:10 p.m.
