Council Meeting
February
23, 2004
The February 23, 2004 HEA Faculty Council Meeting was called
to order in the High School Library at 3:40 p.m., by President Nikki VanEss.
A motion to accept the January 26, 2004 minutes was made by Fran Muller, seconded by Elaine Williamson, and approved.
OFFICER’S REPORTS
Treasurer.
The Treasurer’s Report was not presented because the auditor is
conducting a review.
Corresponding Secretary. The Corresponding Secretary had no report.
Recording Secretary.
The Recording Secretary had no report.
BCEA Representative.
The BCEA representative reported that the positions of President, First
Vice President, Second Vice President and Treasurer are open for
nomination. An outstanding loan against
your pension must be repaid before you can apply for a second loan. There has been a 5% increase to the
pensions. We are permitted to use the
BCEA telephones to make school board and budget election calls. Elaine Williamson is running for a
representative position.
Vice President.
The Vice President had no report.
President. The President spoke with Leo Walsh of Equitable and said the Board is agreeable to accepting the 457B plan, which is an extension of the 403B plan.
SCHOOL REPORTS
Reports were made by each school in the district.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Membership.
There was no report.
Election. The
Election Chair reported that nomination ballots will be sent soon.
Social. The
Social Chair announced the names of the 15 retirees and seven 25-year honorees
for the May 13 Honors Dinner. A list
will be sent to each school. These
names will also be sent to BCEA.
Negotiations.
The Negotiations Chair reported that buttons are not being worn. The February 24 Board meeting needs to be
well-attended, and teachers should wear their buttons. Teachers should plan to arrive on State
Street at 6:15 p.m. on March 3 to greet the mediator. Another HEA general meeting will be held after March 3. Non-tenured teachers are encouraged to
attend all HEA functions. A calling
message was distributed to Faculty Council members to read during the February
23 calling.
Legislative.
There was no report.
Professional Rights and Responsibilities. There was no report.
Teacher Education.
Seven courses are being offered for the spring; some courses still have
openings.
T.A.L.C. The
5ive6ix School and the Middle School held meetings. Reports will be sent to the Vice President.
COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ACTION. There were no recommendations.
OLD BUSINESS. There was no old business.
NEW BUSINESS. A motion was made to return the HEA meeting location to the Middle School; the motion did not pass with voting. It was reported that there is no consistency among the grammar schools with textbooks and curriculum. The curriculum is under the control of the individual school principals. This will be brought to Dr. Riley's attention. The PTSA parents will support the HEA at the February 24 Board meeting.
ANNOUNCEMENTS. There were no announcements.
ADJOURNMENT. With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 4:40 p.m. on motion by Carolyn Huelster.
