Faculty Council Meeting

Monday, February 12, 2001

 

 

                        The February 12, 2001 meeting of the HEA Faculty Council was held at the Hackensack Middle School.  The meeting was called to order by President Robert Kern Curtis at 3:30 p.m. 

                          The minutes of the January 18, 2001 meeting were approved with corrections. A motion to accept the minutes was made by Vida Story.  The motion was passed. 

 

                        Officers’ Reports

 

                        Treasurer’s Report.  The Treasurer presented the budget report.  A motion to accept the report was made by Vida Story.  The motion passed. 

 

                        Corresponding Secretary’s Report.  The corresponding secretary received a letter from BCEA acknowledging the Rivera family.  BCEA made a donation of $500 to aid family members in El Salvador.  Members interested in making private donations should contact BCEA.

 

                        BCEA Representative’s Report.  The next BCEA meeting is Wednesday, February 14, 2001.

 

                        Vice President’s Report.  The Vice President reported that two T.A.L.C. reports have been submitted.   Members are encouraged to meet with building administrators and send reports to the Vice President.   

 

                        Presidents’ Report.  PresidentCurtis reported that there were three corrections made in the contract.   Faculty and staff will receive back pay in April.  Back pay for extra compensation will be given in April. 

 

                        School Reports  

 

                        Fairmount.  There is a concern about air quality in the building.

 

                        Hillers  There was a meeting with the principal and a group of concerned teachers.

 

                        Jackson Avenue School.  No report.

 

                        Nellie K. Parker.  No members were present.

 

                        Middle School.  The school is in transition.  There continues to be a concern with block scheduling and teacher placement in the fall. 

The disciplinarian is absent due to short term disability. 

                         

                        High School.  There continues to be a concern among faculty and students about scheduling.

 A soda machine has been ordered for the teachers’ room.

 

 

 

 

 

                        Committee Reports

 

                        Membership Committee.  The Membership Chairperson was absent.

 

                        Election Committee Report-NEA Delegates.  President Curtis presented the report. Three delegates may attend the NEA Convention in Los Angeles, California, July 2 through July 7, 2001.  Members interested in attending should contact President Curtis. Election of delegates will take place at the March Faculty Council Meeting.

                        The Middle School is in need of an additional building representative. Election of the building representative will take place at the March Faculty Council Meeting .

 

                        Social Committee.  No report.

 

                        Negotiations Committee.  The Contract can be viewed in its entirety on the Internet.  Booklets will be distributed, upon arrival from the printer.

                        The Negotiations Committee was thanked for the time and energy involved in negotiating the contract.

 

                        Legislative Committee.  No report.

 

                        Professional Rights and Responsibilities Committee.  This report was included in the President’s report.

 

                        Teacher Education Committee.  President Curtis presented the report.  Chairperson June Porto is retiring at the end of the school year.  Members interested in chairing the committee should contact President Curtis.

 

                        T.A.L.C.   Two T.A.L.C. reports have been submitted.

New Business.  No new business.

 

With no further discussion, the meeting was adjourned at 4:17 p.m.
