FACULTY COUNCIL MEETING

JANUARY 28, 2002

 

 

The monthly meeting of the HEA Faculty Council was held On January 28,2002

at the Hilton Hotel in Hasbrouck Heights.  The meeting was called to order by President Robert Kern Curtis at 3:30 p.m.

 

A motion to accept the minutes of the December 17, 2001 meeting was made by Vida Story.  The motion passed.

 

Officers' Report.

 

Treasurer's Report.  Mark Porto

The treasurer was absent.  President Curtis presented the budget report.  A motion to accept the report was made by Vida Story.  The motion passed.

 

Corresponding Secretary's Report. Beverly Nelson

BCEA is soliciting advertisements for the Bergen County Legislative Dinner.  Anyone interested in purchasing an ad should contact BCEA.

The cost for attending the Omega Skills workshop has been reduced to twenty dollars ($20).

 

Reporting Secretary's Report. Betty Meeks Manning.  No report.

 

Vice President's Report. Georgiana Brown.  No report.

 

President's Report. Robert Kern Curtis.

President Curtis reported that he had meetings with members at two elementary schools.

 

 

School Reports.

 

Fairmount.  Parking continues to be a major concern. More parking tickets have been issued.

Locks need to be placed on the doors to both teachers' rooms.

 

 

 

 

Hillers.  The parking situation is critical. Teachers have received many tickets. 

There was a suggestion concerning the issuance of parking stickers so that Police can distinguish teachers' cars from the cars of the hospital workers.

The lack of substitutes is a major concern.

 

Jackson Avenue.  No report.

 

Parker.  No report.

 

5ive6ix School.  The school is running smoothly.

The first T.A.L.C. meeting is scheduled for next week.

 

Middle School.  There was a clarification made concerning the number of scheduled faculty meetings.  The contract permits two faculty meetings per month.  Academic meetings are considered as faculty meetings.

There is a concern about the number of interruptions from the public address system.

One T.A.L.C. meeting has been scheduled.

 

High School.  The principal has not rescheduled the T.A.L.C. meeting.

There is a concern about the additional time required for completing questionnaire forms for students by special education teachers and teachers who work with special education students.  The time required, per student, is approximately

25-30 minutes. Release time for special education was suggested.

 

 

 

Committee Reports.

 

Membership Committee.  Susan Young. Absent.   No report.

 

Elections Committee. Denise Corso. Absent.     No report.

 

Negotiations Committee. Lynn Berhalter.  No report.

 

Legislative Committee. Vida Story.

There was a discussion concerning school elections.  It is imperative that members encourage parents, relatives, and friends to vote in the next school election. 

 

 

Professional Rights and Responsibilities. Robert Kern Curtis.

In lieu of a report, the Association Workshop will be held.

 

Teacher Education Committee.Niki VanEss.

President Curtis presented the report.  Members interested in taking or teaching In-Service courses should contact the Chairperson as soon as possible.

 

T.A.L.C.   Georgiana Brown.  No report.

 

 

Old Business.  No report.

 

New Business.  No report.
