Council Meeting

27, 2003
The January 27, 2003 HEA Faculty Council Meeting was called
to order in the Middle School Faculty Dining Room at 3:32 p.m. by President
Robert Curtis.
A motion to accept the December 16, 2002 minutes was made by Vida Story and approved.
OFFICER’S REPORTS
Treasurer.
The Treasurer’s Report was presented by Dr. Curtis. A motion to accept the report was made by
Vida Story and approved.
Corresponding Secretary. The Corresponding Secretary reported that private donations in
Evan Goldman’s memory can be made to two organizations.
Recording Secretary.
The Recording Secretary had no report.
BCEA Representative.
The BCEA representative had no report.
Vice President.
The Vice President has an appointment with Dr. Montesano on Tuesday,
January 28, at 1:30 p.m. to discuss TALC concerns.
President. Dr. Curtis reported that members will receive information from Liberty Mortgage and a PerksCard (discount card). Due to Mr. Capone’s retirement, Dr. Curtis prepared three school calendars, one of which will be approved at the January 28 board meeting. Mr. Capone’s position will be filled by an interim assistant superintendent; his responsibilities are being handled by Dr. Montesano and Dr. Amatuzzi. Ray Skorka is our new BCEA field rep.
SCHOOL REPORTS
Fairmount.
Parking is a concern.
Hillers.
There are problems with: a lack
of substitutes; no coverage for faculty attending workshops; vacant Pre-K and
Kindergarten assistant positions.
Jackson Avenue.
There are no substitutes.
Parker. There
was no report.
5ive6ix School.
A TALC meeting is scheduled.
Middle School.
There are problems with copy machines and a lack of textbooks.
High School.
There are problems with substitutes and student attendance and
tardiness.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Membership.
NJEA sent packets to non-members and explained the representation fee;
many faculty members have since signed up.
Contact Sue Young, ext. 7914, for forms.
Election. All
positions are filled.
Social. The
Honors Dinner is May 15; 16 members have sent in their retirement notices.
Negotiations. The Negotiations team will meet after the HEA meeting; Dr. Amatuzzi is the Board negotiator.
Legislative.
A letter campaign is urged to set funds aside for health benefits as
well as pension rights.
Professional Rights and Responsibilities. This was included with the President’s
report.
Teacher Education.
Several course descriptions will be distributed for the spring.
T.A.L.C. An
report will be given after the January 28 meeting with Dr. Montesano.
COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ACTION. There were no recommendations.
OLD BUSINESS. There was no old business.
NEW BUSINESS. On January 22, three elementary schools received surveys from Dr. Riley with a return date of January 29. The survey concerns a reading program. The Association will investigate this matter.
ANNOUNCEMENTS. There were no announcements.
ADJOURNMENT. With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 4:14 p.m. on motion by Vida Story.
