Faculty Council Meeting
January 23, 2006
The January 23, 2006
HEA Faculty Council meeting in the High School Library was called to order at
3:39 p.m. by President Fran Borg.
Vida Story motioned
to accept the minutes of the previous Faculty Council meeting. The motion was carried.
OFFICER’S REPORTS
Corresponding
Secretary. Betty Meeks Manning distributed the Liberty
Leader Extra.
Recording
Secretary. There was no report.
BCEA
Representative. Elaine Williamson was not present. President Fran Borg spoke of plans for a
future letter-writing campaign to Governor Corzine.
Treasurer.
Lorelei Kaminsky presented and distributed the December 31, 2005
report. Vida Story motioned to accept
the Treasurer’s report as presented, and the motion carried.
Vice President. Amy
Fink requested that missing T.A.L.C. reports be submitted to her. President Fran Borg noted that reports are
missing from last year from Jackson Avenue School and the 5ive6ix School. Fran also reminded the members that the HEA
office is now located in the Guidance Wing of the Middle School, and that the
stationery needs to be changed to the new address. Ballots for amendment change should be sent to the HEA office for
counting on Thursday, January 26. Jackson
Avenue School needs to have a T.A.L.C. meeting—they are to be scheduled at each
school once in the fall and once in the spring.
President.
Fran Borg spoke about the ongoing negotiations. The first official meeting with the Mediator
and the Board of Education is scheduled for February 16, 2006. Vice President Amy Fink added that there
would be a “Meet the Mediator” rally at the Board Office around 7 p.m. that
evening. The ongoing concerns regarding
mandatory and non-mandatory meetings continue to be addressed. Fran noted that Bob Curtis is retiring as
the Registered Agent for Legal Issues.
There is a need for someone to replace him. Tanisha Williams volunteered to act in that capacity.
Membership. It
was stated that an updated member list is needed. Some are under the impression that dues that are taken out of the
paychecks include the HEA dues.
However, that is not the case.
HEA dues are separate.
Election.
Lisa Bernardo will be the Election Committee Chairperson.
Social.
Maria Matera is waiting for notification from the central office of the
names of this year’s retirees. Then she
will begin plans for the Honors Dinner.
Legislative.
Vida Story spoke about the proposed letter-writing campaign to Governor
Corzine. More information will be
forthcoming.
Professional
Rights and Responsibilities. There was no report.
Teacher Education. Amy
Fink had a written report stating that four classes were being offered
beginning in March. If you have a
course in mind that you’d like to teach, write a proposal to Mr. Wojcik at the
Office of Curriculum and Instruction.
T.A.L.C.
There will be a High School T.A.L.C. meeting this week.
School Reports.
Individual school reports were discussed.
COMMITTEE
RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ACTION. There was
no report.
OLD BUSINESS. There was no old business.
NEW BUSINESS. There was no new business.
ANNOUNCEMENTS. There were no announcements.
ADJOURNMENT. On motion by Vida Story, with no further
business, the meeting was adjourned at 4:25 p.m.
