Vampire Hunter D5xvhsdvddub,sub

Movie 1

vampire_dThe first animated horror film for adults! In the year 12,090 A.D. the earth is plagued by vampires who rule over small pockets of civilization in a mockery of ancient feudal land baronies. The stranglehold these arrogant immortals hold over their helpless victims is challenged by a mysterious vampire hunter known only as "D". A beautiful young villager, DORIS promises herself to this hunter in exchange for his eradication of the local vampires headed by COUNT MAGNUS LEE. But before "D" can put his plans into action, Magnus Lee kidnaps Doris. It is now up to "D" to fight through a horde of demons and supernatural assassins in order to rescue this brave girl and put an end to the tyranny of Magnus Lee. A thrilling and sophisticated animated horror film filled with bizarre imagery and exotic characters.

Movie 2

Bloodlust

D has been hired to track down Meier Link, a notoriously powerful vampire who has abducted a Human woman, Charlotte Elbourne. D's orders are strict - find Charlotte, at any cost. For the first time, D faces serious competition. The Markus Brothers, a family of Vampire Hunters, were hired for the same bounty. D must intercept Meier and conquer hostile forces on all sides in a deadly race against time. Despised by Vampires for his profession and by Humans, for the blood in his veins, D relentlessly pursues his prey for a price.

There are 25 Vampire Hunter D novels, so far, covering 15 story arcs. The first movie, circa 1985, was an adaptation of the first novel from 1983, also titled "Vampire Hunter D."

The second movie, circa 2000, known as "Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust" in America, but, just "Vampire Hunter D" in Japan, was based on the third novel from 1985, "Vampire Hunter D: Demon Deathchase."

Commentary

A tale of vampires set in the far future with an odd future-past look to everything. D, a vampire hunter, has taken it upon himself to travel the world, ridding it of vampires. This is another one of my very favorite titles.

The first movie suffers from the limitations of '80s animation, but, the story still manages to shine through. The animation quality is much improved in the second movie and, although each of the movies is a self-contained story, I strongly recommend watching the movies in order.

I used to have the original Streamline version of the first movie on dubbed VHS and I repurchased the Urban Vision version on DVD. I also have the second movie on DVD.
