Commentary

In Bubblegum Crash, a sequel to Bubblegum Crisis, revisit the "Knight Sabers" as they reprise their role as the good guys to stand against a threat from their past.

There's not as much music in Bubblegum Crash as there was in Bubblegum Crisis, but, there's still plenty of twists and turns in the story line.

I used to have all three volumes on VHS. I was so pleased with the series that I repurchased it on DVD. The good thing about having it on DVD is that I can now loop the opening sequence and let it run continuously while I work.

After looping the opening sequence of Bubblegum Crash for several hours (I like the song), I've decided to actually look very closely at the opening in as much detail as my humble DVD player will allow. Why? It seemed like a good idea at the time.

For those of you who've always wanted to know what the billboards and other signs in the opening sequence have to say, here's my best guess...

  • "American Popcorn", "Kinka", "140", "Weather-R", "Drug" and "Angora".
  • Later in the opening, between Leon loading his gun and the boomer being shot in the face, there's... "Perche", "Rad Out", "Spot Pips Inn", "Nine Tomato", "Sonodaya", "Creatre", "Sugiyama", "Wai", "Rise".
  • Some of the words on the paper Nene is sleeping on that I can make out are... "fashion", "Studio" and "country". And, on Nene's computer "Power/Stand By".
  • Linna's laptop shows the "Knight Saber" logo. In the brokerage house, "Zone" scrolls across the upper ticker, "Genom" scrolls across the lower ticker and as the camera pans up... "File", "Option", "Load", something indisticnt like April or Apparel..."Co. Ltd" and "E5ECS".
  • Just after the brokerage house scene, the flying police transport shown is number 18.
  • Sylia's display shows some eye candy and "GI.XA4 TP88" in the top-left corner.
  • The three AD Police officers shown after Priss' flying scene are numbered 14, 18 and 21.

There are also a couple of instances of Japanese letters during the opening, but, I can't read Japanese. The first is in the opening montage of signs to the left of the "Weather-R" sign and the second is in the short montage just before the boomer shooting scene.
