Commentary

A.D. Police Files is a prequel to Bubblegum Crisis and was released in 3 parts. Follow the exploits of Leon as he makes his rounds. Sorry, the "Knight Sabers" don't make an appearance. The music is good, but, there's not as much music in AD Police Files as there is in Bubblegum Crisis. My favorite music is in the episode: "The Man Who Bites His Tounge".

I've researched the soundtracks and found a source in Japan that had one, but, they wouldn't sell to anyone outside Japan. I did, however, manage to get my hands on another soundtrack from a U.S. source. Apparently, they had some previous problems dealing with international orders.

The VHS version of the series featured a "spine scene". Considered to be a revolutionary concept at the time, when placed side by side, the cover boxes fromed a scene. The cover art for the DVD version is based on the spine scene. BTW, the music videos are accessible from the special features section of the DVD.

There is some blood and gore and some violence. All three episodes are self-contained stories set a few years before the events chronicled in Bubblegum Crisis. Beyond Leon, I'm not aware of any cameos by other characters in the BGC universe.

According to the Anime Encyclopedia (Jonathan Clements and Helen McCarthy [page 48] ISBN# 1-880656-64-7), there was supposed to be five episodes, but, the series was cut short. There was also a plan to revisit the Knight Sabers off-duty. But, the project was shelved and after extensive editing, it somehow became Tenchi Muyo.

I used to have all three parts on tape. I enjoyed the series enough that I repurchased the DVD.
