Personal Information
Okay, let's see here:
- My name is Nathan, and I was born on 18 November 1977. My girlfriend and best friend is named Beth. I have a bachelor's degree in history from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and a master's degree in library and information science from Drexel University. I currently live in southern New Jersey, having just moved a little over a year ago from southeastern Pennsylvania.
- My greatest interest is Oz. This is Oz, as in The Wizard of. Most people only know about the movie, which, while I like it, isn't something I'm really into all that much. What interests me are the books. L. Frank Baum actually wrote fourteen of them, after which the publishers found other authors to continue the series.
- I like listening to music, but I mostly listen to a select core of bands and artists. This is changing somewhat over time, though. I'm always trying to expand my musical horizons. I tend to be fairly obsessed with the artists I do like.
- I don't really watch that much TV, but I am a regular viewer of The Simpsons, as well as Family Guy and American Dad. I'm also a big fan of Futurama, but they aren't showing new episodes at this point. Some are apparently in the works, though. Hooray! I'm not sure why it's harder for me to get into live-action shows.
- I like video games, especially classic Nintendo ones, but I suck at them. I play The Sims a lot, and I'm pretty good at that, but it doesn't really require good reflexes and eye-hand coordination. For much the same reason, I enjoy role-playing games, including the Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior/Quest games (although I'm pretty much out of the loop on the more recent releases in those series).
- The name "VoVat" is actually based on variables used in physics. Bill, who sat next to me, had written down the variables for initial velocity, final velocity, acceleration, and time, in that order, so that they spelled out "VoVat," which I thought sounded neat. My other commonly used Internet name is "Fablesto," which was based on a Scrabble game in college. The word "fables" was on the board, followed by a space and then the letter O. Someone suggested playing a T to make the word "fablesto," and, once again, I thought it sounded neat.
Here's a somewhat recent picture of me:
