The HENDERSON 4 cylinder Motorcycle was first designed by BILL HENDERSON in 1911. BILL and his brother TOM later joined SCHWINN's AMERICAN EXCELSIOR MOTOR MANUFACTURING CO. The HENDERSON was the finest motorcycle being made at the time and many speed and endurance records were set on HENDERSON Motorcycles.
After a time BILL HENDERSON went on to start ACE Motorcycles in Philadelphia, PA., where he continued to designed 4 cylinder ACE Motorcycles (THE WORLD'S FASTEST MOTORCYCLE) until his untimely death while road testing one of the new ACE motorcycles in 1922. He was hit and killed by a drunk driver in a car. ACE was later sold to INDIAN and the ACE 4 motorcycle became known as the INDIAN 4 thus continuing the HENDERSON 4 legacy. INDIAN produced the INDIAN 4 well into the 1940's. As far as I'm concerned the most beautiful bikes ever made were the HENDERSON 4's, the ACE 4's and the INDIAN 4's.
Below and on the next pages are some of my favorite motorcycles from America's golden age of motorcycling.
